(TW for betrayal and violence)

Ballister's POV
——————————————————

I opened the hideout's door, shutting it quietly behind me as I made my way over to the makeshift living room, clutching the scroll in my hands.

"You're back late, anything happen?" Y/N inquired, sitting up from the floor. It looked like she hasn't slept since I left, but I can't exactly worry about that right now.

"Can you step outside for a bit?- To uh-.. make sure I wasn't followed or anything." I said monotonously, mentally crossing my fingers.

"Okay? But you didn't answer my question." She shrugged walking off, not without taking notice of the scroll in my hand.

"I'll tell you later, promise." I coaxed, giving her a small smile.

"If you say so." The girl said, suspicious still ringing in her head.

I closed the door behind her before turning back to my main focus and made my way over to the couch.

My footsteps seemed to make the person on said couch stir and yawn, sitting up abruptly.

"Ohh, I have not slept like that in forever." Nimona said drowsily, rubbing their eyes. As their eyes began to focus they took notice of their surroundings, me included.

"Why do you have your cloak on?" They asked, kicking the blanket off of them and sitting up, distraught.

I slammed the scroll down onto the table, my eyebrows narrowed and jaw clenched. "Tell me this isn't you."

They stood up, brushing past my question, "Where did you get that? Who have you been talking—"

"Tell me this isn't you." I demanded again, cutting them off.

"You think that I would do that?" Nimona asked in disbelief. "That that's who I am."

"I don't know." I snapped, looking away for a brief moment. "You're the one who told me not to trust anybody, question everything."

"That's right, but even now with this, think about everything we've been through together." Nimona retaliated, their tone escalating.

"I am, I'm thinking about everything we've done." I countered, my mind was rapidly sorting through the things we've experienced.

"Broken out of jail, twice might I add. Trespassed on private property, too many times. Stolen cars, kidnapping someone, manipulated people." And the list could go on and on.

"I was helping you." Nimona said in defence, her voice pleading.

"You were using me!" I snapped, "You wanted them to see a villain. Someone else to hate so you wouldn't be alone." I accused, directing a jab to their shoulder with my finger.

Nimona's shoulders tensed and their expression turned shocked, taking a step back. And that's what gave me the confidence to step closer.

"Because you're not a sidekick, you're a m—"

"What? I'm a what?" Nimona cut me off, her eyebrows furrowing.
