1971, East Pakistan :

The Awami League, led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, wins the national elections, but the Pakistani military refuses to transfer power, imprisoned him in jail. Pakistani military launched the henious Operation Searchlight to track down growing nationalism in eastern Pakistan, ending up in a genocide and widespeard brutality. The unbearable atrocities and lingering refugee crisis prompted Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi to opt of an offensive.

Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (then, General), the seasoned one of a kind Army general, refused citing onset of monsoon in the Indian subcontinent and lack of preparation as the reason. Under his leadership the Indian Army geared up for the inevitable war. They provided training to the Mukhti Bahini to fight for the independence of their own people.

Somewhere in an Army camp :

Captain Anirudh Roychowdhury is a brave soldier of 5/1 Gorkha Rifles. His battalion was tasked with training Mukti Bahini, brave Bangladeshi freedom fighters. Anirudh, a dedicated officer, was determined to support the cause.

One evening, Probir, a Mukti Bahini fighter, gathered Anirudh and his comrades around him. Though the officers had earlier heard about the atrocities but listening the same from an eye witness still was a different experience. As they sat around Probir, his eyes reflected the horrors he witnessed.

"Friends, our people are suffering unimaginable atrocities," Probir said, his voice trembling.

"Razakars and Pakistani soldiers show no mercy. They slaughter men, rape women, and burn homes, targeting Hindus and Muslims alike."

Probir's voice cracked, "I saw my family's temple desecrated, our deity shattered. My sister, Nalini, was taken by razakars. I don't know whether she's alive or..." A tear trickled down from his eyes as he remembered the horrific events. The soldiers hung their head in shame as they felt disgusted over the fact; the protectors became predators.

He paused, collecting his thoughts, "Hindu villages are razed, women forcibly converted. Muslim neighbors who helped us were punished. Our shared humanity means nothing to the perpetrators."

Anirudh listened intently, his emotions stirring. As Probir spoke, Anirudh's mind reeled with images of brutality. He felt a mixture of emotions at the same time. Anirudh's face reflected his inner turmoil. His comrades sensed his emotions, sharing his outrage and compassion.

"Probir, we'll fight alongside you," Lt. Amarjit assured placing a hand on Probir's shoulder, but Anirudh remained quite. Probir's eyes locked onto Amar's, gratitude and hope shining through.

"You're not just allies, You're our brothers." Probir said, gratitude pouring of his eyes.

Probir's narration left a lasting impact on Anirudh. Everyone retreated back to their camps as night fell. Anirudh laid on his bed, his eyelids shut, but sleep evaded him. Probir's words echoed in his mind, conjuring images of razakars' brutality. Screams and pleas for mercy resonated in his ears. He tossed and turned, his subconscious tormenting him with visions of burning villages, women and children fleeing, terror etched on their faces, men slaughtered, their bodies left in the streets. Anirudh's mind recoiled in horror. His breath quickened, and sweat dripped from his brow. Suddenly, he jolted awake, gasping for air. The darkness seemed oppressive, heavy with the weight of suffering.
