“Dr. Chase.” I look up to see Dr. Sutton in my office as I make my necessary conclusions on Christian Vaughn's case. “Sorry, I'd been knocking but you didn't respond.”

“Have a seat, Dr. Sutton.”

“This office suits you.” She smiles.

“Thank you, Dr. Sutton.”

“You always call me Dr. Sutton.” She smiles. “I have a first name you know, it's Grace.”

“Dr. Sutton.” I still find myself saying and we both share a laugh.

“People are talking, they said you got into it with a patient's family member.” She continues.

“Dr. Sutton, I didn't take you as a fan of gossip.” I continue to access Christian Vaughn's records and at the same time try to engage in this conversation.

A seductive promise of an end to all pain.”

Rory Vaughn's words from earlier stab my mind like a rusted knife.

“Are you okay?” She asks and now I focus on her. “I've heard some things about….um….Miss Vaughn, and none of them are pretty.”

“It was a mere argument, Dr. Sutton, a simple misunderstanding.” I assure her. “I am okay, really.”

“Dr. Chase.” One of the residents knock on my door.

“Come in.” I urge him and Dr. Sutton stands to her feet after a glance at her phone.

“I'm needed in the ER.” She says. “See you after?”

“Yes, Dr. Sutton.” She leaves and I collect the files from the awkward resident. He is the picture perfect need and he trembles as he hands the records over.

“You….you….um, you read books, Dr. Chase?” He asks, my eyes flicker between the newly received files and his face.

“What?”

“The um ... .the woman earlier, she's an author, and you were quoting from her book.” He continues and I stand to my feet. He takes a few steps backwards.

“And?” I ask. I don't mean to terrify him but as I see it, he is already terrified.

“You are Dr. Edward Chase, a successful Neurosurgeon and an ex military doctor, I guess I just wonder where you get the time to read books.”

“And this is the part where your wandering takes you out of my office, I have a patient to attend to.” I usher him out and I leave myself. I guess everyone will give me weird looks behind my back for the next couple of weeks.

It's almost the same situation as last year, when I did what most people would find seemingly foolish and dumb, a topic that was discussed and gossiped on for the entire month. And now yet another incident has occurred, and with the same parties of course. I bet they have so much to talk about, not that I care.
