Thursday 6:50 pm
Parker would be here in ten minutes and I was not ready. He wouldn't tell me where he was taking me. I had tried getting him to tell me all day but he refused. He said it was a surprise and I do not like surprises. “What am I going to do, Billy? He won't tell me where he's taking me!” I was pacing back and forth in the kitchen. Dad was working late so he wasn't here for me to convince him to help me get out of this. “I'll still follow you.” Billy might be an asshole to me, to everyone really. But he's always been protective.
There was a knock on the front door and I froze. Billy looked at me and huffed out a long sigh. “For fuck sake!” As he stood up the doorbell went off. “Jesus fuck! I'm coming!” I stayed in the kitchen while Billy answered the door. “Oh, hey, man, I'm here to pick up yn,” Parker said. My nerves were so high that I started to feel sick, like physically sick. My stomach flipped and I was leaping across the kitchen to the sick to throw up. The back door opened at the same time and dad walked in.
“Jesus, yn, are you alright?” Again just like Billy dad could be an asshole but he's always taken care of us. His one hand was on my back ans the other was pulling my hair back. I turned the water on, rising the sink and my mouth out. “I'm sorry.” Billy and Parker came into the kitchen shortly after. “Who the hell are you?” Dad asked, looking at Parker. Billy had his arms crossed and was glaring, but I think that's just his natural expression.
“Parker Miller, Sir. I'm here to take yn out on a date.” Parker held his hand out but dad didn't take it. Parker slowly put his hand down and cleared his throat. “Are you alright, yn?” He asked. Billy scoffed, “Obviously she's not. So I think you should just leave.” This was Billy giving me an out. “Yeah, okay, raincheck then? Or maybe I can come with you up to your cabin?” Dads eyes flicked between Billy and I. “The cabin? You're going to the cabin?” He asked, now glaring at us. “Yeah, dad, remember, we asked about it last week. We were going up with our friends to help Sidney get away for a few days.”
As soon as I said Sidney's name his looked softened a little. “Right, yeah, sorry, I've been so busy at work that I forgot.”Billy and I looked at each other in surprise that he was playing along with us. “Well, how many of you are going up again?” He asked. “Uh, me and Billy, Sidney, Tatum, Stu, Casey, and Randy.” I didn't mention Tatum wanting Eric to come. “I'm sorry, Mark, but if that's the only ones I agreed to then that's all that's allowed.” Parker's jaw ticked ever so slightly.
“Right, well, then, maybe we can go on our date next week. Unless you're feeling up to still going tonight. I was going to take you to this 50s diner a few towns over. They come out on skates and all that. They even have a drive-in theater down the road that plays old movies.” Now I was feeling really bad. I cleared my throat and said something I knew I would probably regret. “Let me just change my shirt and brush my teeth.” He seemed like he was actually trying to do things the right way. So why not just go on this date. It's just one date.
I left Parker in the kitchen with Billy and dad and headed upstairs. I changed my shirt and then went to the bathroom. As I was brushing my teeth Billy came in. “Are you serious? You just puked because of how high your anxiety was about going out with him,” he whispered harshly. I rolled my eyes and spit in the sink, turning the water on. “I fell bad, okay? He seems to be trying to be a decent person and do things the right way. It's one date. It's not like I have feelings for him, Billy.” He scoffed. He does that a lot. “Yeah, because your in love with Meeks,” he said.
“I–I am not! Randy's just a friend.” Was it that obvious? Did Randy know I had a huge crush on him? Who else knows? “Yeah, you are. Luckily, for you, I don't think Randy is all that bad. I mean he's a fucking geek but better than that bitch boy downstairs.” I pushed passed Billy and headed for the stairs. “Whatever, Billy, I'm just trying to be nice. You know something you don't know how to do,” I said. “Fine, go! But I'm not going to follow and keep and eye on you!”
I left with Parker, well, after dad instructed him to have me home before midnight. Billy just leaned against the banister to the stairs and glared. “I'll get that!” Parker moved around me and opened the passenger door. I whispered a thanks and got into the car. He closed the door and jogged around the front to the driver's seat. When he got in he was smiling wide. “Alright, you ready, gorgeous?” I nodded with a small hum. Parker pulled his keys from his pocket and started the car.
See Parker was one of those rich kids, his father own a business in Los Angeles, not exactly sure what he did or what it was but I knew he was rich as fuck. The owned a house back a long drive, about five miles from mine. His parents were never home. If Stu was throwing a party at his place then Parker was throwing one at his. So he had a nice car, a black Mazda RX-7. And Parker, like any guy who has a nice car, likes to think that since he does have a nice car that he can get an girl he wants.
His car is part of his ego. His hair is part of his ego. Begin Popular, the baseball captain, rich, pretty, it's all part of his ego. So this night was going to just be fucking fabulous. When were leaving town I notice Billy's Camaro not to far behind us. I knew he would follow along and it looks like he has someone on the car with him, probably Stu.
