Shiho POV

"Hi, is this Mrs. Mikami?"

That was the moment I received the phone call that shattered my will to live, the last thing I was holding on to.

"Yes, this is she. Who is this?"

"This is Dr. Stone calling from the medical examiner's office regarding your husband, Mr. Mikami."

"Medical examiner? What are you talking about? What happened to my husband? Is he okay?"

"Ma'am, are you alone?"

"Yes, I am. I'm on the way to the hospital, about an hour out. What's going on? I just got a call that my husband was stabbed, and now you're calling me. Is my husband dead?"

"Ma'am, is there any way you can pull over?"

I felt my heart drop, everything felt cold around me, even in the hot car. I began to pull over, ignoring the honks, and put my car in park.

"I pulled over now. Tell me, is my husband dead?"

"...yes, ma'am. I'm so sorry."

"No! No, you're lying. Everything was fine. He said he was okay. We were supposed to be married tomorrow."

"Ma'am."

"No, I don't want to hear it. I want to speak to my husband right now."

"Ma'am, I am sorry. I know this is hard for you to hear, but-"

I wanted to scream, but nothing came out as tears ran down my face. I kept crying as she continued talking, but I couldn't hear anything. I wouldn't hear it.

"No. When I get there, I will be talking to my husband, and you're fired."

I angrily hung up, put my car back into the drive, and drove even faster to the hospital.

What kind of prank was this? Why was she lying? He can't be dead. He can't. That's all I thought as I drove to the hospital.

When I finally arrived, I parked my car, got out, and pushed past everyone to reach the front desk.

"Ma'am you can't just- "

"I just got a distressing phone call from one of your horrible doctors here telling me my husband is dead I don't know what kind of sick game you people play but I'm not for it. My husband's name is Satoru Mikami, where is my husband."

"Ms. Mikami."

I turned around to see a woman in a white coat with brown hair tied up in a bun

"You it was you I recognize your voice from the phone where is he? Where is my husband."

She replied with a sigh

"Right this way."

"When we arrived, everything was moving in slow motion. She led me to the room. I could see everything before the door was opened. His body was covered with a sheet. My blood ran cold, and the world around me turned black and white. When I lifted the sheet from his body, I saw his cold, lifeless form lying there. That's when I let go of all the pain weighing in my heart. From the bottom of my soul, I screamed. I screamed even when I felt like my voice would break, but I didn't care. I lost my only love, my friend, my family, the only person that kept me going."

Time skip

After experiencing everything, the one thing that I was tired of hearing was, "It gets better over time, you'll find someone. I know it feels hard now, but you will move on." But I couldn't. I love him. I loved him. All I could think of was the moments we spent together. As I continued to lie on my bed with nothing but silence and darkness surrounding me, every phone call didn't matter as the phone continued to ring. All the food spoiled, but I didn't even care to eat. Nothing else mattered. I didn't want to move. I didn't want to do anything. I felt completely hollow inside. I was so tired that the last thing I saw as I turned towards my bedroom window was the last gift from him - my favorite flower, a dahlia. I smiled as I closed my eyes for the last time. Thinking, "I hope we see each other again."

I suddenly heard a man's voice: "Request confirmed. Pain Nullification Acquired. Creating a body that does not require food or blood. Success. Requires special skills: starvation resistance, cold and heat resistance, and soulmate skill. Success. Pain resistance is required. Success. Great Sage is required. Transformation to any form required."

What is this? Everything is so quiet. It's so dark, I can't see. I can hear wildlife and nature around me. I feel so light. The last thing I remember was... That's right, I died. What's happening? How am I alive? What's happening? I touched something, it felt like a plant, and it dissolved. I can feel it coursing through my body. My limbs were gone, my whole body had changed. It felt bouncy and squashy. Oh my god, how is this possible? Am I slime?

"Indeed, you are."

That voice, I heard it before I died.

"Who are you?"

"Answer. I am the Great Sage; I can help you through this and answer any of your questions."

"Well, that's great to hear."

"Aren't you adorable. May I ask who you are talking to?"

I tried looking around but I couldn't see. It was a female voice. I then felt someone pick me. It seemed I was also very light. I then felt as though I was being scanned.

"You poor thing. I shall grant you the power of the forest and everything that resides in it, also with the power of sight and the ability to speak. But first, I shall grant you a name. By the forest goddess Stella, your name is Dahlia Tempest, and you shall be the new queen of the forest and all that resides."

I then felt a rush of power run through me. It became too much and unbearable to the point where I felt dizzy and passed out once again, consuming me once again.

"Your journey has just begun."
