I nearly tripped and fell down the stairs. The last sound I heard was my mother's piercing scream. Closing my eyes, I braced for the impact that never came. Instead, an arm encircled me. Looking up, I saw my distressed parents. My father, alarmed, asked, "Sweetie? Are you okay?" I nodded. "Do you still want to go to Dave & Buster's?" This decision would alter my life forever. "Yes, Dad," I replied. He lifted me up and carried me to our black Cadillac Escalade, securing me in my car seat. Noticing my mother exiting the house without locking it, he said, "Hey baby, could you please lock the door?" Realizing her oversight, she turned back,

she locked the front door securely, then walked around to the passenger side and entered the truck. We drove out of our complex in downtown Atlanta and headed towards Dave & Buster's. As we listened to the radio, my favorite song, (The Boy Is Mine) by Ariana Grande, started playing. I began to softly sing along.

How can it be? You and me
Might be meant to be, can't unsee it
But I don't wanna cause no scene
I'm usually so unproblematic
So independent, tell me why
'Cause the boy is mine, mine something about him is made for somebody like me
Baby, come over, come over
And God knows I'm trying, but there's just no use in denying the boy is mine
I can't wait to try him
Let's get intertwined
The stars, they aligned the boy is mine
Watch me take my time
I can't believe my mind
The boy is divine
Boy is Please know this ain't what I planned for
Probably wouldn't bet a dime or my life on
There's gotta be a reason why
My girls, they always come through in a sticky situation
Say, "It's fine"
Happens all the ti-ime Something about him is made for somebody like me
Baby, come over, come over
And God knows I'm trying, but there's just no use in denying the boy is mine
I can't wait to try him
Let's get intertwined
The stars, they aligned the boy is mine
Watch me take my time
I can't believe my mind
The boy is divine
Boy is And I know it's simply meant to be
And I, I take full accountabilities for all these tears
Promise you I'm not usually
Like this, shit, it's like news to me, to me
But I can't ignore my heart, boy! The boy is mine
I can't wait to try him
Let's get intertwined
The stars, they aligned The boy is mine
Watch me take my time
I can't believe my mind
The boy is divine, boy is (mine)

I noticed my dad had turned the music down. My mother, overjoyed by my angelic singing, clapped excitedly. Embarrassment flushed my cheeks. Through the rearview mirror, I caught my father's smiling gaze. My humiliation deepened. My mother exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, Leo! Honey! I knew we chose the right school for our princess!" He smiled, "Indeed we did, honey, and I hope she'll make plenty of friends." They shared a kiss.
