A large, bulky dive boat was gliding between ice chunks. The captain's tough hands gripped the wheel, as his emerald eyes skimmed the horizon. Suddenly, the captain cut the puttering engine, and the noise was interrupted by silence, except for a soft whooshing from the wind. The boat slowed down to a stop in the narrow water passage, as the calm waters held it in place.
The captain opened an orange leather bound book and began flipping through the pages. Journal entries, pictures, and maps greeted him. Eventually, the captain's eyes rested on one, single pair of coordinates, and he looked at the map that was hung up in the bridge. He stroked his short, white beard in thought when suddenly, he noticed ripples in the water. The captain rushed to the stern, off the starboard quarter, and looked down into the blue, almost black water below.
A glowing, white figure gently swam below, barely visible in the deep, frigid waters. The captain's eyes widened. The creature was growing bigger and bigger...approaching the surface for air, no doubt. This was no beluga. This was easily three times bigger than the boat, probably more. In a panic, the captain rushed back to the bridge, turned the engine on again, and steered the boat a safe distance beside the creature. He looked through the window. The creature was breaching, it was desperate for oxygen. Though its skin was white as the ice around it, a trait never before seen in this species, the captain's eyes sparkled with recognition as he turned back to mark the coordinates.
Finally.
