Sunset boarding: the vanished and murdered

Chapter One - The sharp boy

Leland Thompson

It was a few or so days before me, Leland Thompson applied for a world-renowned boarding school, called "sunset boarding??" You'd think it's some sort of beautiful boarding school with a beach on the side, but nope, it's on an island I think in New England. In the area of Vermont, on an island Or whatever, but no, it's not it's an old school that looks like it was made in the 1600s!

Leland is a short boy at the age of 10 he has brown shaggy hair with hazel green eyes that become more prominent at night, his birthday is on September 7th he was born in 2000
He closes his journal and sits down to go on his phone it is the brand new one, iPhone 4, his wallpaper was a picture of a duck an inside joke from him and his friend in Chicago made

Aunt Maria a beautiful woman with an average height and average figure
She had short brunette hair that shimmered in the sun

"Leland! Come down" she shouted kindly

They stayed in an old Victorian style house, it had creaky old wooden floors and the walls had old dingy flower pattern green wallpapers, it was two stories, him and Maria moved around a lot. Leland kne she felt guilty he couldn't make friends whatsoever because of there moving and the ones he did make he'd had to say a painful goodbye

Leland ran down the creaky steps,
"Yes?" He said excitedly seeing the letter that said

"Sunset boarding"

"It's best you read it sweetie"
She smiled
"Alright hand it over" Leland exclaimed as he grabbed the letter
"You think I got accepted?" He asked softly
"Of course, they should've saw your files on your previous schools" aunt Maria replied quickly
He opened the letter and the contents read

"Dear Maria Frank,
We are pleased to inform you that Leland Thompson has been accepted in the elite academic system sunset boarding, from his history he may or may not be placed in the following categories, affluent, sharp learners, or delinquent,
In order to meet our headmaster you have to head to old winstand island in New England
A boat will take you to and from there,
We've booked you a hotel until the term starts which is in September 5th,
He will need clothes for days that don't require uniform,
School supplies if you can't afford the cost it takes for us to provide it all for
Him"
"From, Agatha Thorne, herbology professor"

Maria smiled once more and said proudly
"Let's get to that boat"
They had driven from Illinois to Vermont
"Hello miss!" Said the ticket man
"We need to go to the old winstand island" Maria stated
"Two tickets will be 35$" the ticket man smiled
Maria handed him the money
"Thank you Miss!" He smiled even wider then before

On the boat ride to the old winstand island
Maria sat in the adults floor whilst Leland stayed in the students floor

Leland sat next to a girl with shoulder length fluffy brunette with blonde streaks hair
He cleared his throat and said "I'm Leland" he smiled
"Oh- uh, Ava, Ava Terrence" she said nervously she had rather crooked teeth that made her enlarged buck teeth look pronounced
"You a first year? Assuming your going to sunset boarding" asked Leland
"Yeah, um my parents are waiting for me at the island my grandma drove me here" she replied softly
Leland nodded
"Why are your parents on the island already"
Ava looked to the ocean confused
"I—I don't know" she looked around a bit her eyes scattering the boat lunch bar
"Wow man" Leland shook his head
"Yeah" Ava nodded

A awkward scrawny boy with curly black hair and hazel green eyes walked to them as they were grabbing food, he looked a bit pale and had clear skin with circular rimmed glasses

"Hello" a boy said "can I sit beside you?" he said softly his voice higher then the other boys, he also had a speech impediment and from what Leland heard his S sounds like a CH

"great..." Leland Mumbled "yeah- yeah go ahead" he said although
He thought that this boy would make him also seem weak at this new school where there was a community of troubled children

"I'm Ava Terence, and you are?" She asked smiling at the boy
"I'm Max my last name is Cohan" max smiled
Leland groaned silent then stuck his hand out
"I am Leland Thompson" He then continued "are you going to sunset boarding?"
Max nodded
"Yes, yes of course" he said excitedly "I bet I'll get in sharp learners, I'm not rich enough for affluent nor troubled enough" Max stated
"Affluent?" Leland said curiously
"Yes you don't know?" Max smiled then said
"There's three, affluent, sharp learners and  delinquent"
Leland look shocked then replied
"There's a chance I skimmed it and only read sharp learners"
Max shook his head
"That's something you should've known"
Leland sighed
"No no" he stuck his hand forward and shook his head
"I am more worried about the ya know!" He yelled then said 
"Actual delinquents that are going there! Honestly they're called delinquents for a reason"
Gabriel jolted back in fear
"Okay..." Gabriel conceded

The island had lush green forests and in the distance you can nearly make out a small town and a large building which had to have been the school

A sign that exited the ferry read

On the car ride to Lineberry
"So...your going back to travelling the word for what?" Leland sighed his head leaned back in the chair
"I'm a humanitarian, Leland I know it's hard" aunt Maria paused then said
"But your mother is a drunk, I can't send you back there..." she frowned slightly at the thought of how disheveled Leland's mom Kara looked when she last saw her
"I've gotten calls and letters, she says she's better" Leland replied leaning his head back slightly
"You know she isn't...she's gonna relapse"
Aunt Maria sighed resting her head on her hand
"How would you know" Leland sighed and spoke
"You only came after I told you I didn't like it when mom drank, I had to tell you"
"Leland...just—" she sighed again "I don't like arguing my boy...I'm sorry..."
