"No doubts, that's her."
"What in the world was she doing out there? How did she even get there in the first place?"
"Look at her, she's grown so much!"
Airi could hear faint voices speaking loudly around her. She frowned and tried to open her eyes, the sun suddenly blinding her. As she weakly tried to sit up, she realized that her entire body was aching, a kind of pain she had never felt before. She rubbed her eyes, trying to not to get blinded by sun again.
"Hey, don't rush it, you're injured. Don't worry, Airi-chan, we're going to take care of you."
Airi frowned again, not understanding where she was, what had happened nor who was currently talking to her. Whoever was talking knew her name. Her vision got progressively clearer and once her eyes were accustomed to sunlight, she looked up at the familiar face of the person kneeled down next to her. Her eyes widened as they trailed over familiar red strands of hair and the three scars across the face.
"H-How-" Airi's throat got sore as she tried to speak out. "Sh-Shanks!!" she exclaimed with a relieved smile across her lips.
"I was afraid you wouldn't recognize me!" he laughed, "But I should be the one not recognizing you, you've grown so much!"
Airi's smile suddenly faded. Her memories were back. The last thing she remembered was holding Luffy and telling him that she loved him. She quickly understood that her last memory was from three days ago, and that Kuma had made her vanish away like he did the rest of the crew. She could now feel the awfully painful lack of Luffy's presence, aching in her chest.
She breathed in deeply, she could have appeared anywhere. But there she was, in Shanks' company, someone that she deeply trusted and had known since she was a little girl, the one person that had made Luffy and her want to become pirates and that they had always been looking up to. She couldn't believe how lucky she was that she had landed here.
Suddenly, every thought felt too overwhelming, losing her crew, losing Luffy, and the relief of being with someone she trusted when she could have landed anywhere in the world.
Airi broke down and hugged Shanks, sobbing violently as he rubbed her back in circles, "I know, I know. It's okay, you're safe now."
Airi sobbed onto his shoulder, everything felt like it was falling apart around her. She wondered where Nami, Robin, Sanji, Chopper, Zoro, Usopp, Franky and Brook were. She wondered where Luffy was. She had gone through so much since they had to go separate ways. Airi had to deal alone with Jin's death, and then had to pretend to be a part of the Marine to navigate through Grand Line. She had done so much just so she could be with Luffy again. And now she had no idea where he was, if he and the rest of the crew were okay. She had no idea where she even was. But she quietly noted how incredibly lucky she had been to land in none else's company than Shanks'.
"Where am I?" Airi asked as she quickly wiped away her tears with the back of her hands.
"We found you all alone and passed out on a small island while we were buying food supplies," Shanks explained, "Do you know how you'd get out there?"
Tears threatened to roll down from her eyes as she thought of what had happened, "I do. But it doesn't matter. I need to find Luffy and the others."
"How's Luffy?" Lucky Roux questioned excitedly.
Airi looked up at him as she felt tears threatening to fall once again, at the thought of Luffy. Someone elbowed him hard in the ribs, causing him to wince in pain, "C'mon now, poor Airi has just woken up, you'll ask questions later.", it was Yasopp, Usopp's father.
Airi looked around her, she recognized the ship she was on. It was the same one on which Shanks had given her and Luffy a tour. The same ship on which Luffy had stabbed himself in the cheek. The same ship on which her mother had left.
Shanks put a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder, "I might have an idea of where we can find Luffy. But it'll take a few days. We were headed there anyway, we'll try to get there in time. In the meantime you can rest, eat, however you'd like, make yourself comfortable, alright?" he said, earning a thankful nod from the girl.
"Captain! Sayaka is back!"
Airi's eyes widened as she curiously looked around. A woman with wavy blonde hair stepped into sight, she was walking confidently, holding two heavy looking bags full of groceries in her hands. She stopped as she noticed everyone looking at her with wide eyes, "What's with y'all?"
The ship's deck was now awfully quiet. She frowned in confusion before looking around. Her eyes landed on Airi. And as they did, she immediately dropped the bags she was holding, causing all of the groceries contained to roll over the ground. The woman seemed to have lost any control over her emotions when she hurried to the girl, kneeling down next to her and wrapping her arms around her, "Oh, Airi!" she cried.
Airi winced in pain at the sudden squeeze. She patted her mother's back, nervously. Sayaka pulled back from the hug and looked at her daughter through her tears, "Oh, my sweet little Airi. Look at you, you've grown up so much!! What a stunning woman you've become! I can't believe you're here!!"
Airi gave her a weak smile in response as she played anxiously with her fingers.
"How is Jin-kun?" was the first thing her mother asked her.
Airi's smile immediately faded. Her heart dropped to her stomach at the thought of her lifeless godfather. Some kind of rage began boiling in her veins, something she had never felt before. It was only normal for her mother to ask about Jin, but something about it made Airi very upset.
"How is Jin-san?" Airi scoffed with tears in her eyes.
Her mother nodded before giving her a questioning look.
"Jin-san is dead." she spoke out, feeling a painful lump in her throat.
Everybody on the ship gasped loudly, their eyes widening at the sudden words. Sayaka put her hands up to her mouth, "Wh-What??"
Airi's body felt way too weak to fight against her need to cry, so she decided to give up and let the tears she had been holding in roll down her cheeks. She was now sobbing loudly again, "JIN-SAN IS DEAD." she shouted.
Sayaka began crying, her hands still covering her mouth in shock.
"I'm sorry." Airi cried, "I'm sorry that I have to announce it like this, now and here. But trust me, I wished I had you by my side when it happened." Airi kept crying.
"Oh, Airi, I'm so sorry, my love..." Sayaka cried, attempting to hug the girl but getting gently pushed away.
"Are you really?" Airi scoffed, "You didn't seem sorry for abandoning your daughter just to selfishly sail over seas, 'cause you never even wrote!! I've spent my whole life thinking I was not even good enough for my own mother to stay!!"
"Airi, please... I'm so sorry." Sayaka cried.
"If you really were, you would have written your daughter letters!! You've never even written Jin-san either! Jin-san was my only family. And I was alone when he passed. He died in my arms!!" Airi sobbed, her body painfully shaking, "I had to deal with his death on my own. You were not there. You never were."
Airi got up before her mother could retort and ran away, hoping to find some peace and quiet somewhere on the Red Haired pirates' ship.
