Chickadeechirp sat firmly in the dirt. As Twistertail walked away from the den, she felt a weird feeling. She needed to be dealt with. Or at least talked to. Where had Chickadee learned that behavior? There were a few unpleasant possibilities. But Chickadee? No, she was the kit who most resembled Twistertail. Their personalities were so similar. But Chickadee was a little too messed up.
Now only the regularly-nocturnal cats were in the clearing. Twistertail was tired and she at first turned towards the warriors' den. But then she caught sight of Lemmingleap at the entrance to the camp.
Lemmingleap. LEMMINGLEAP?! A GroveClan warrior?!
"What's going on over here?" Twistertail demanded as she trotted over. "Lemmingleap? Seriously, Lemmingleap? What is this?"
"Oh." Lemmingleap chuckled. "Is this a bad time? Sorry. There wasn't a guard outside. But it's just me. I come in peace, by the way."
"Lemmingleap." Twistertail was shocked, but glad to see her old GroveClan friend. "Hi. Yes. Welcome. To ForestClan. Can I help you?"
"It's great to see you, Twistertail!" Lemmingleap smiled awkwardly for a moment. "But yeah. I have a message for Parsleystar. And Hazelstar. But I'll do that one later."
"Parsleystar is... sick right now. She's put me and Mousefall in charge temporarily."
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear about Parsleystar. Um, is your daughter sick?" the cocoa-colored she-cat asked.
"Busy." Twistertail glanced around. They were near the elder's den, and Robinsong was standing at the entrance to it. She looked dangerous in the gray light of predawn. Robinsong was dangerous. She had recently been in battle and was probably on edge. Maybe take this conversation someplace else.
"Let's go..." Twistertail looked further around, but none of the temporary Clan leaders were around. "Um... I'm sorry. Are you going to WoodClan to talk to Hazelstar? Can you stop on the way back?"
"Oh. It's a short message." Lemmingleap sounded surprised. "Is it that bad of a time?"
"It's been a crazy night. Almost morning, even. But if it's a simple message, please do tell us." Twistertail said. She looked behind her. The gray sky was turning dark blue and a few of the early risers were yawning and stretching. "Oreganosmolder! Grouseshade! Can you come here?"
"Oh no! Don't worry, Twistertail! I'll protect you!" Grouseshade bounded over as if he were still an apprentice. He arched his back and growled at Lemmingleap. "Get away from her, GroveClan scum!"
"Grouseshade, seriously? She's a friend. I mean, my friend. She doesn't have to be your friend. But right now she has a message for us." Twistertail shooed him away with her long tail. Oreganosmolder came up cautiously.
"What kind of message is it?" he asked.
"Whatever it is, I want all three of us to hear it. That way when Parsleystar is ready to hear it we'll all remember. Got it?" Twistertail recapped.
"There's going to be a meeting among the ValleyClans." Lemmingleap announced. "It will be only the leaders of the ValleyClans. It will be held at today's sunset at the usual Gathering place. Got it?"
"Yep." Oreganosmolder nodded.
"I think so." Grouseshade said.
"Can you repeat it just so we're clear?" Twistertail asked.
"Of course. There's going to be a meeting..."
