"Oh! Hello, Saffronsmolder." Mosscurl squeezed her head between the edge of the doorway and Robinsong's shoulder. "Yeah, hey. Is this about the trial? I'm coming. I just lost track of time."
"And Robinsong, too." Saffronsmolder smiled at the larger cat.
"What can we help you with?" Robinsong asked in an unfriendly voice.
"I was just wondering if I could come inside." Saffronsmolder said cordially. "Someone just told me about a very interesting shed in this yard here. Now, I don't usually interfere in things that take place on kitty-pet territory, but we just had to check this out."
Mosscurl and Robinsong looked at each other for a moment. "We?" Robinsong asked, looking beyond Saffronsmolder.
The tom gave a tail signal. Twistertail and Squirrelstrike and slid out from under the fence that led to the Valley Clans. Adderlash stepped out from behind the bushes nearby.
"Oh." Mosscurl said bitterly. "It's a party."
"Can we come in?" Saffronsmolder took a step forwards.
"Hm." Mosscurl thought for a moment. "It's a small shed, Saffron. We won't all fit in here."
"Just me."
"Robinsong doesn't like visitors much."
"I'll be quick."
Robinsong pushed her way through the door. She was going to say something, but accidentally pushed the sliding door too far. She stood up straight, pushing Mosscurl against the other door. "Oh. Uh, let me get that."
She pawed at the door, forgetting how it was supposed to work in her rush. The sliding barn door slid all the way open.
"What's in here?" Saffronsmolder craned his neck to see past the two cats. He wrinkled his nose at the smell. For a moment the three cats looked at each other, each unsure.
Then a pair of paws wrapped around Robinsong's face. The dark ginger cat stumbled forwards, hissing in surprise. Ambereyes bit into her throat and chewed away at the thick pelt. Robinsong growled a deep growl and pinned the cat with one of her large paws.
"What the-" Mosscurl gasped from the doorway. She looked genuinely shocked.
"Charge!" Adderlash yelled loudly, galloping over the grass. The rest of the cats didn't immediately follow. But after a moment Squirrelstrike let out an unsure battle cry and ran after her Clanmate. Twistertail had been in a tense crouch, but her long legs straightened out. She stood, indecisive. Her paws wanted to charge alongside her fellow warriors. But her brain needed a plan.
"I guess I'll... keep a lookout." Twistertail muttered. She watched the chaos erupting. Adderlash had bowled into Mosscurl and the two tumbled back into the shed. Crashes could be heard from the nearby fence. Twistertail didn't know which cat to watch.
Okay. Squirrelstrike's here. Adderlash is inside. Saffron's doing well. Ambereyes is going crazy for some reason. Pumpkin... I dunno. That's everyone. I think.
A brown cat spilled out of the shed.
Bumblebounce?
He ran into the bushes.
"What are you doing, you birdbrain? Get him!" a she-cat yelled from inside the shed.
Robinsong came loping across the yard with Ambereyes hot on her heels. Bumblebounce had run behind the bushes on the other side of the yard and slammed into the other fence. Twistertail felt her heart leap with panic. She unsheathed her claws, turned towards the tom, and raced over.
