"Ow!"
"I told you to stop moving!"
"(Y/N)! You're pressing too hard!"
You swipe one last dab of the wet cloth where she was injured and grab a clean cloth from your pouch and wrap it tightly around her cut.
"What were you trying to do!? Why were those apes on horses?" You ask, looking almost crazy waiting for her to explain.
"Wait so you don't know how this world came to be? The virus that made apes intelligent and advanced which took over and wiped out almost all of humanity?"
You couldn't help but look at her like she grew two heads. Your parents died before they could tell you anything, you raised yourself and have been surviving since. The books you would read had many pictures that would depict how people used to live. It never occurred to you that the reason why there's so few humans today was because of a virus created millions of years ago.
"No, I wasn't told much of the outside world, my parents had passed from an illness but I had no idea it would be the virus that wiped out humanity," you say sadly, finally knowing some of the truth.
"What more can you tell me about these apes?" You ask her curiously, Mae sighs and knows that it's going to be a long day.

After a long talking session with Mae, you excused yourself and told her that you were going to take a long walk and think of all that she had told you.
It was already dark and the twinkling stars were out, shining in all their glory. You had no idea how much Mae knew about these apes. She had told you a bit about her mother and how they were both captive and imprisoned in some sort of kingdom with apes as the rulers. She was very lucky to have escaped and found you, she had asked if you could help her with something but every time you asked with what, she would simply dodge the question and say it was to 'save humanity'.
You have no idea how much you've been walking but you somehow ended up back in the old, abandoned railway tunnel. You look into the dark abyss and before you go and retreat you hear horses off into the distance.
You bite your lip and wonder if you should venture deeper or go back. But before you know it, you continue to walk into the tunnel. You continue to follow the trail and what feels like endless to your travel you see light illuminating from behind the small hills, which you curiously walk towards.
You gasp, seeing the village. It was beautiful, with many makeshift tents and buildings. What stood out the most was the tall wooden tower with torches adorning it. You curiously walked around the village, making sure no one saw you. You then saw multiple fish hanging on a broken wooden pole, which you picked up and stared at the contraption with interest, but before you could fix it you heard heavy footsteps coming your way which in a state of panic made you run into the nearest hut to hide.
You look at your surroundings hoping that there weren't any apes inside and to your relief there wasn't. It seems that you entered where they keep their fish from outside predators and cook them as there was a campfire in the center of the hut.
As you stepped deeper into the hut you didn't realize that there were some wooden bowls that were stacked up and with a final step you bumped into them which caused a loud clash to emit throughout the hut. You hide near the biggest rack of fish and hope that no one heard, but your heart sinks when you hear footsteps quietly enter the hut.
You peek between the fish and see the ape from before. You try to control your breathing as the ape sniffs the air for anything strange. He stares at the knocked over bowls and continues to look over the racks, moving in between the rails of hanging fish.
You start to slowly move as he gets closer to where you're hiding. When he turns to a different section, this gives you a chance to swiftly move and get closer to the entrance of the hut, but this didn't go unnoticed by the ape. He follows and continues to sniff the air, he looks at the rack in front of him and notices you between the cracks, both staring into each other's eyes. Before anything can happen, you forcefully push with all your might which causes the ape to stumble and run towards the entrance.
You yelp as you feel a hand grip on the hem of your dress. You pull and pull but to no avail and just-
"Let go!" You shout which causes the chimpanzee to look at you in shock and in awe. He releases the dress and watches as you run off into the dark abyss of the forest. He stood up shakily and felt something wet on his abdomen and opened his sash bag only to reveal his broken egg. Although he was distraught that his egg was cracked he couldn't help but think.
'Echoes can speak?'
