Tord's POV:

Mrs. Lebanon's class wasn't all that bad. As she spent her time with introductions, I focused my attention on Tom. He really did have wonderful eyes.

Luckily I wasn't caught staring. That would've been embarrassing.

As the bell signal for the end of class, Tom and I meet at the exit.

"What do you have next?" He asks, leaning in to see my schedule.

Tom has an interesting scent. Like alcohol, but faint. And slightly sweeter.

"I have English with Mr. Johnson." I replied, trying not to blush as I though of how close he was.

"Looks like I have Math with Mrs. Gray." He says, sounding just a hint disappointed.

I snicker softly at that.

"Well guess we head our separate ways then!" I say, waving as I walk off.

Tom waves a little too, before turning away.

Now to find the classroom. I look to the school-provided maps. Not that they help that much...

"S-sorry I'm late!" I pant, out of breath. I lean against the doorframe expecting at least a scornfully glare from the teacher.

Instead I'm met with a kindly smile.

"Don't worry about it son. You're new here, yes?"

I nod quickly, still expecting some form of punishment. Submission tends to lessen the pain.

"Well then don't worry about it."

Another surprise.

Mr. Johnson flashes another wide smile.

"It's hard to get lost in a school as big as this. And, my classroom is a bit harder to find."

I blink at him a few times before registering.

"S-so you aren't going to... punish me..?" I ask, my head still bowed in fear.

"Why would I do that?" Mr. Johnson asks, his face shifting from merry to concerned. His forehead wrinkles slightly as he gives a discerning look.

"N-no reason. Thank you sir."

I sit down in my seat, not daring to look up. Though I listen to what the teacher is saying, my mind is elsewhere.

"Now please find a partner and share something you did this summer."

That caught my attention. Partner work never went well back at my old school. I usually just worked with a teacher. At least then my chances of getting pummeled were lower. It still didn't prevent it though...

I keep my head down, hoping it looks like I'm just sleeping. Maybe then I'll just be ignored.

Much to my dismay, I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I lifted my head slowly, anticipating a blow to my face... but was met with just a few gentle words?

"H-hello? You're the new kid right? I d-don't really have any friends in this class... and it doesn't seem like you do either... s-so... do you want to be partners?" He hesitantly questioned.

I stared at the boy before at last nodding. He had black eyes, like Tom, but significantly smaller. They almost looked more natural. Not nearly as beautiful however. He wore a plain denim jacket over a gray shirt, his hair was a light brown.
