Carrie tried to dodge the creature, but to no avail. It grabbed her with its terrifyingly long fingers as she watched the sagging flesh of its arms wave back and forth.
It reminded her of a spider.
A deadly one.
The high cheekbones of its face rose as it smiled, its rows of yellow and black fangs glinting in the light.
Then it bit her.

Vivian burst into the clearing, gulping.
Oh no.
She could smell Marietta, but she forced the spirit's back out of the way and focused her newly razor-sharp senses on Carrie.
She shoved her shoulder against the rotting door. At least it wasn't hard, like the front door. It broke easily. Vivian ignored the small wood splinter digging into her shoulder for the moment.
Then she was tackled.
She willed herself to hold in her scream.
She flipped herself over, looking at her captor. Maple, panting, was sprawled across the ground. "Get out of here," she said. She shoved Vivian away from the house. "No!" Vivian said, her hands shaking as she stood up. "I have to help Carrie!" Then she ran into the house.

Macy shuddered.
She wasn't dead yet.
She had to hold on, grip the edge of the cliff.
But she was falling.

Maple jumped up, trying to navigate the tunnels of the old house. She followed the noise, the sounds of scuffling.
They seemed to be coming from the basement.
She ran down the steps, grabbing Vivian's wrist as she caught up to her and shoving her back. She couldn't let her get killed. She owed it to herself. She owed it to Peter Vilios.
But Vivian was persistant, pushing Maple away and running down the stairs. She was willing herself. Maple knew it. She could feel it radiating from Vivian from the first time they met.
They opened the door and saw the horrifying sight before them.
