Seven- Calli

I walked into the restaurant where Ty worked. He
was behind the bar mixing up drinks when I slid
onto a stool. When he looked my direction he
frowned at me like he didn't understand why I was
there.

I have only been her two other times and one of
those times I was with my dad to have lunch. I
have never come here during the evening and
never when Ty was on shift.

He made his way over to me after her made up a
couple of drinks and left them for a server to pick
up at the end of the bar.

"What are you doing in here. I thought you didn't
explore the city?" he said, poking fun at me.

"I've been in here before, just never while you are
working."

His hand went to his chest, and he faked hurt.
"How you wound me like that?"

I giggled then my face fell because I the next
sentence I was going to say may piss him off.
"I locked myself out of the house. Could I borrow
your key?"

His eyes locked onto mine and he said, "What?
How did you lock yourself out?"

"Long story."

"Girl, in the short amount of time I have known
you the past couple of weeks you have become a
walking disaster."

"Don't I know it."

I looked down at the bar thinking about how much
my life has changed in the last three weeks. I have
been thinking a lot about it lately and maybe this
is some kind of crazy karma for staying in the
same place for longer than a year. Was that even a
thing?

"Here's my key, just don't lock us out. I don't want
to call management at three in the morning when
I got off."

I grabbed the key he placed on the bar and lifted
my head to look at him.

"I'm sorry. As soon as I'm healed, I'll be out of
your hair."

His face softened at my response, and he gave his
head a slight shake.

"Calli, you can stay as long as you want. It still
irks me that you make the trip up and down the
devil's staircase. Since you have been at my place,
I don't even think about it."

I snorted at his sentence. I had never thought of
the stairway leading up to my apartment in that
way but if you casted red lights across it and
flames everywhere I'm sure it would fit the bill to
a tee.

I left the restaurant only hitting one person with
my crutches. I've been on these for over two
weeks, and I still hit things and occasionally
people. I'm sure that I would have already fallen
down the stairs at my apartment and met my
doom, like Ty thought if I wasn't staying with him.

I was making my way down the sidewalk back to
Ty's. I had just pulled out my phone to see what
classes I wanted to study for this weekend when I
crashed into someone.

My phone went flying out of my hands at the
momentum and I heard the impact of my crutches
hitting the sidewalk when I was wrapped in strong
arms.

I seen sneakers and jeans as I tried to straighten.
"Sorry, that was my fault." The guy said as I was
righting myself.

"It's okay my luck has been-" I stopped.

I couldn't' believe what I was seeing.

"Hey, Calli." Knight said.

"Knight." I didn't know if it came out as a question
or a statement.

When he brushed my hair back, I stilled. I could
have been made of concreate that was how stiff I
became. He looked at me like he was trying to
memorize all my features. When he zeroed in on
my lips his eyes hardened. The way that they
shifted back and forth looked like smoke curling
around his irises under the streetlamp. I inhaled at
the memorizing scene playing out in his eyes. His
eyes shot up to me and he let go.
