Author's POV

"Oye prabh kade tan time sir kamm kareya kar. Ghanta laata tu tyaar hon nu (Prabh why can't you get ready on time? You took an hour getting ready)" Gurnoor Kaur Sandhu, the mother of Mehar and Amrinder Singh Sandhu chided her niece. Prabhjot Kaur Sandhu was the daughter of Mehar's father's brother, who lived in Bathinda and was living with them for a course she wanted to pursue in the city.

"Tayi Ji, I wasn't able to find the perfect dress. You know, finding matching jewelry is such a big problem. Don't worry. There are still 2 hours in their arrival," Prabh said, wrapping her arms around Gurnoor's shoulders. Lightly hitting her forehead, Gurnoor smiled, saying, "Kamli (Idiot)"

"Your daughter is an even bigger idiot than me," Prabh said, making a face and Gurnoor's blood pressure fluctuated in alarm. Her daughter never walked on the straight path and she had to do something unique. She was worried about what new trouble she was creating.

"Why?" Gurnoor asked Prabh.

"Go look for yourself" Prabh lightly nudged Gurnoor toward the kitchen. As soon as they entered the kitchen, they saw Mehar squeezing paneer balls and transferring them into a container full of something that looked like milk. She was dressed in her simple t-shirt and cotton pajamas not ready for the meet. Here her cousin was dressed like a bride and the bride herself had chosen the big day to be a cook. On other days her mother kept yelling at the top of her pitch to help her in the kitchen only to hear, 'I am busy working on the designs mumma.'

"MEHARJOT KAUR SANDHU!" her mother shouted sternly, shocking her. The ball she was squeezing fell straight into the milk bowl and the splashes fell all over her T-shirt. She looked up and smiled cheekily at her mother, exclaiming a little 'Oops'.

"What the hell are you doing in the kitchen?" Gurnoor narrowed her eyes at her. Mehar cheekily smiled as she resumed her work answering, "Dil told me he loves ras malai, I am making it for him"

Gurnoor looked at her exasperated, while Prabh covered her chuckle with a cough. What the hell!

"You realize you are going to be married to him in a few weeks, right? After marriage, make him whatever you want every day. For now, go and get ready," Gurnoor ordered.
