Author's POV
The glow of the sun marinated their forms in its warm gleam as Dilraj's lips curved up into a serene smile. He couldn't believe how everything had changed in a matter of two days. This wasn't supposed to be their situation. This wasn't supposed to be how their story unfolded but who has ever been able to stop the will of destiny? He was meant to be waiting for her calls, craving her presence and yearning for her for the next two years until her brother came back from America but now looking down at his wife snuggling into his chest he couldn't stop himself from kissing her forehead tenderly.
He remembered the events of that day when he heard those dreadful words from his father regarding postponing the wedding.
"Why?" Dilraj asked. His father nodded at Mehar's as he informed him.
"Amrinder is urgently required to report to America's branch for a project that involves him staying there for the next two years. We will conduct the wedding when he comes back," he said.
Dilraj looked at Mehar's face, which was blank as she nodded to everything her mother said, not even paying attention. Gurnoor consoled her daughter that they would have to wait for her brother to come back and only then the wedding can be conducted because it had always been her dream to get married in the presence of her entire family. He saw as she slowly smiled, showing she didn't mind waiting. However, he could see past her bravery as he heard the pain ring in his ears that vibrated from her chest.
She saw him and knew he could read her wailing heartbeat despite her smile. Despite the facade, she was putting on.
Lokki mere haase sunn de
Ve tu sunn da dil diya
He sat with his father as he announced, looking at his to-be-wife, "No! We'll get married before Amrinder leaves for America. I am done waiting. Either get us married in these two days before Amrinder leaves or else—"
Everyone waited for him to continue while Mehar looked at him with her heart in her mouth. Was he finally done waiting for her? He didn't want her anymore? That wasn't even possible. She knew the answer already.
"I am marrying her today itself" Dilraj declared, making her jaw drop. He hid his smile seeing how shocked she looked. After those damn long 11 years, he wouldn't wait even for a week more quit years. Everyone looked at each other before they burst out laughing.
