Grim Thoughts Of A Reaper *a poem*

I am here to reap what man has sowed
I am here to collect the debt that is owed
But the souls I see I struggle to hold
For many have not been granted time to grow old
They did not plant the seeds that were watered with greed
Most of them toddle and cannot read
The mothers nurtured, the fathers provided
The children obeyed and yet they died
Where to look, where to start? I would weep a river of hopeless, endless tears, if I had a humans heart.
This was not their war nor their fight
but down they came when the missiles took flight
But here I have come and there is work to be done
First I will take the first child's hand and lead them to a peaceful land.
One they have only heard of at their grandmothers knee
One they pictured as they perished amidst a cacophony of screams.
For you who survive I have but one demand: do not look away, take a stand.
I come too swiftly to a country of sweet ghosts
While some of you look away and mindlessly listen to your politicians boasts
Lies to pacify
Niceties to quell
While the oceans of the world rise and swell
Do not think you are safe from harm
while you sit and gulp down their spells and charms
Look to your own, the mirror on the wall
Look to the every day lives both big and small
Mans wheel of greed and misfortune always turns,
And if you fail to stop that wheel,
then we shall meet face to face for it will be you who next burns.
