She rolled over in bed and smiled at her sleeping husband, watching him smile and frown alternately in his sleep. she was glad he made it home early, she hated to sleep alone. she sat up, got out of bed, and padded down the hall to change the air setting. the her room had grown freezing cold over the last half hour. as she peeked in on her sleeping toddler her phone rang. she dashed down the hall to grab it before it woke her husband.
"Hello?"
"Hey Bug, I am so so sorry. I know I promised to be home by now, but somebody charged room service to their account and I guess my coworker didnt input their balance into the system correctly. I'm on my way home now." She smiled at the nickname, he only used when he knew he was in trouble.
"Oh it's okay I-.." Realization dawned her. She was speaking to her husband. Whom she just saw sleeping in her bed.Silently she walked back into her room and stared at the solid sleeping form in her bed, the covers rising and falling, the snores identical to her beloved husbands. The man she knew now for a fact had yet to make it home.
"Bug?...Are you still there?"
"Yes..someone is in my bed..and he looks just like you.." she whispered fearfully
"GET OUT THE HOUSE NOW! GRAB THE BABY AND RUN! there are some things i need to tell you..run to the nearest gas station and wait for me. get out now before he wakes up!" backing up slowly, she ran into her childs room and cradled her warm body to her chest as she murmured quietly rubbing the toddlers back calming her back to sleep. As she turned the knob to the front door, she heard the bed groan as whoever, whatever, was occupying it sat up and let out an unearthly scream. She slammed the door and took off at marathon pace down the street, never looking behind her at the dark hulking form that was now watching her from the door.
