Adelaide Rose had lived a rather questionable life.

Well--"lived" seemed to be a bit of a stretch. She hadn't exactly lived much. She did, up until the early-mid 1940s. That was when she disappeared, frozen in time for decades until she was found and given her second chance.

The people that found her said they were called "S.H.I.E.L.D". Once she was brought back to good condition and got adjusted to the way society had changed, they had offered her a job there. Why not, she figured, and began her position as an agent for the company. She had made a name for herself; her undetectable stealth and great aim made her a good asset when she was needed on a mission. She had made friends as well—slightly less important to her but still a great asset—and one would figure she had everything she wanted, especially given her circumstances.

However, part of her still felt empty. A hole that she could not fill no matter how hard or how much she tried.

"Agent Rose?"

Adelaide was snapped out of whatever trance she was in by the sound of the gentle voice belonging to one of her peers. She waved dismissively, yet she came over anyway. "Liang."

"Rosie."

"Don't call me that. What do you want?"

Yena pulled up a stool to sit next to Adelaide; a gesture that almost made her worry, given that Yena's usually relaxed demeanor had visibly shifted to a serious one that was usually seen on her brother. Adelaide cocked an eyebrow in confusion, waiting for her to answer her question.

"Adelaide." Yena tapped her fingers against her thighs, like she was trying to find the exact words for what she was about to say. "You won't believe me when I tell you this."

"Just get on with it, kid. I have stuff to do."

"They think they're getting closer to finding Rogers."

Adelaide stopped. What? No, she thought, trying to process. No, they can't be. "Yena, I mean this nicely. If they found me ten years ago and haven't found him yet there probably is no chance of him being found at all."

"You don't have to believe me, that's fine." Yena shrugged. "But Kevin's down with the team right now and he's been giving me updates. Just thought I'd let you know that they might find your man soon."

"He was never 'my man'. But thanks, I guess."

"I meant it as more of a generic term, but good to know you instinctively thought that's what I meant."

"Alright, shut up, Liang. Go away, I'm working." Adelaide spoke dismissively, turning back to her computer.

"Oh, yeah. About that," Yena put a file folder next to Adelaide's keyboard. The front of it had big black letters that read 'PALMER', and Adelaide picked it up. "Boss asked me to give this to you. He said there's been... updates?"

"Updates. Huh." Adelaide blinked, looking at the folder. "Thanks, Yen. Go away, let me look at this."

"Copy, copy." Yena nodded and walked away, leaving Adelaide to her own work. She looked in the folder, and in it were multiple papers. The first one was the one she had seen before; the generic overview that she had received when they first started investigating and she was first assigned to the case.
