Pieces of Dreams (sequel to TWST)

Chapter 14

Their time in Austria had slowly come to an end.  Andrew and Kat were now on their way to meet Brian at his NEMS office in London.  Having arrived a couple of hours ago, Brian had arranged a meeting so he could discuss their job responsibilities with them.  Brian explained to Katia that his secretary, Freda Kelly, was living in Liverpool and would come to London a few days a month.  One of her primary responsibilities was to manage the Beatles fan club and to write the newsletter.   That in itself kept her plate full.  Katia at first thought that Brian was looking for someone to assist Freda in that, but it soon became apparent that he had other plans. 

"Freda tried to resign when we moved the offices to London.  Her father would not allow her to come, but I refused to accept her resignation and agreed for her to stay in Liverpool and travel to London a few days a month.  Everyone sees Freda as family here...just as the boys see you, Kat." Brian smiled.  "However, the fact that Freda cannot live here in London or travel with us sometimes complicates things.  Allistair Taylor is my personal assistant, but he seems to be getting a bit overwhelmed with everything that is being handed over to him.  You can imagine everything he does that the boys warmly refer to him as Mr. Fixit."

"Oh I can't even imagine everything that goes into keeping up with them." Katia smiled. 

"Well you're about to find out." Brian laughed. "You both are." he added looking at Andrew. 

"I need you to assist Allistair with everything that has to do with public appearances- from contacting the venues, security, making travel arrangements, booking interviews...all of that.   Have I scared you enough yet?"

Katia laughed. "No...it'll take a lot more to scare me." 

"I'm sure Allistair will be very grateful to have that off his plate" he smiled.  "I'll get you in touch with him so he can bring you up to date on things." 

"Great."

"As for you, Andrew, I want you to help relieve some of the responsibilities that are weighing heavy on Neil and Mal right now.  I'm going to be talking to Neil later today and we'll discuss what they'll be handing over to you.   In addition to that, the boys have told me they'd like for you to join them in the studio.  George and Paul, in particular have a real interest in having you there."

"Well I'm flattered that they'd ask for me to go to the studio." he smiled. "And I'm excited to be able to help Neil and Mal in anything I can.  Thank you again for the opportunity." 

"I've arranged a flat for you two near here.  Mal will take you there this evening so you can get settled in."

"Thank you so much for everything, Brian."

"Think nothing of it.  It's hard to find people we can trust to work for us...and the boys have nothing but good things to say about you both.  It's great to have you on the team. The boys will be filming in Salisbury Plain for two or three days and then will return to London and finish filming in Twickenham Film Studios. They also have to to go in and record some songs for their new album, so we have some busy weeks ahead of us.   Kat, I'll have your office ready here at NEMS when you get back.  Please talk to Allistair about their next European Tour.  You'll need to start contacting people sooner than later." 

"Of course." 

"Now how about we get some lunch?" Brian asked as he stood up.

Katia and Andrew met with Mal back at NEMS and he took them down to settle into the flat that Brian arranged for them. 

"This is amazing." Katia remarked in astonishment.  It was a  two bedroom, fully-furnished flat with  all the necessities included.
