coffee paintings, and rain showers,
artful frocks, books, and swords.
the day was as sweet as
the taste of the sun in your eyes.
you've handed me your planets
for safekeeping
and I've asked you why.
you've told me you've trusted
the girl you caught a glimpse
of decades ago
but I am not her;
I am just a shell.
you told me she liked carnations;
dandelions danced in your arms.
I was a rotten rose.
I am just a shell.
your fragile cracks are like starlight:
they glow in black holes and ashes
whereas mine are like tainted scars.
I am just a shell.
I am just a shell.
I am just a shell.
I knew I was not where I was supposed to be
when I found out
these galaxies never bore
your stars.
