Imagine you are best friends with Lily but come from a Pureblood family who has decided to betroth you to another pureblood wizard.

You'll never forget your first day at Hogwarts. The excitement, the feeling of being nervous, but the existential dread after being sorted was not a feeling you had anticipated. There had to be a mistake. Your family was one of the prominent Slytherin houses, how could you be sorted into Gryffindor? The looks you got as you sat down at the house table was a mixture of confusion amongst the Gryffindors and disgust from the Slytherins. What would your father say? He was always so proud of your Pureblood status.
More murmuring in the Great Hall had pulled you away from your thoughts. Looking up, you watched as Sirius Black made his way over to the Gryffindor table and sat across from you. A Black, in Gryffindor? Now you knew there had to have been a mistake. How could a Black be in Gryffindor? Once Sirius was seated, he looked up at you, a look of shock on his face. You gave him a tentative smile as you both shared a knowing look. Your lives were about to abruptly change. Whether it was for the better or not remained to be seen.

6 years later
"I thought you hated Potter," you said as you watched Lily put on makeup. She sighed as she put her mascara away.
"I don't hate him, I just find him immature and annoying," she replied as she grabbed her lipstick.
"Then why are you going out with him?" you asked as you checked your bag for the umpteenth time.
"I don't know. I think he's starting to grow on me," she said as she put her earrings in, checking her reflection in the mirror.
"And I'm going why?" you asked as you put your shoes on.
Lily walked over, helping you up from your bed and looking you over, nodding in satisfaction. "Because I don't want to be alone. It will help having you there as a buffer."
You rolled your eyes, "And which one of his friends am I being stuck with? I hope it's Remus. He's at least sweet and pleasant."
Lily laughed, "You know, Sirius is sweet on you. Has been since first year."
You rolled your eyes, "Sirius is nothing more than a preening peacock who loves any and all attention he can get."
"Aww, thank you love!"
You jumped at the voice behind you. You hadn't paid attention to the fact that you and Lily had made your way into the common room while you were ranting. You turned around to find a beaming Sirius Black standing next to a smirking James Potter. Merlin help us, you thought. As charming as many of the female population found Sirius Black, all he ever did was annoy you to no end. You much preferred Remus, who was always kind and apologizing half the time for the idiotic way Sirius often treated you. You watched as Lily took James' outstretched arm, making their way out of the common room. Feeling a nudge on your elbow, you looked over to find Sirius with his arm outstretched towards you.
"Shall we, my lady?"
You rolled your eyes as you ignored his arm, quickly following after James and Lily out of the common room and through the castle to the awaiting carriages. The carriage ride to Hogsmeade was unbelievably awkward. James and Lily were completely lost in conversation, ignoring the fact that you and Sirius were even there. For once, Sirius was quiet, which was a little unnerving. You both rode in silence as you would occasionally try to avoid watching the flirting going on between Lily and James.
After getting to Hogsmeade, it only got worse. You had been under the assumption that Lily despised Potter, but here she was, becoming completely enamored with him. You and Sirius trapsed behind them, your arms wrapped around your middle, trying to keep the cold away as Sirius kept his hands in his pockets. You watched as they made their way into Madam Puddifoot's with a groan. That was the last place you wanted to go into. It was where everyone went to be all lovey-dovey. You were not going to be subjected to anymore of Lily and James' looks towards each other and there was no way you were going to set foot in there with Sirius. Imagine what everyone would say! You had already been getting dirty looks from some of the other girls who saw the two of you together. Suddenly, you felt a hand on your arm, stopping you from following them and pulling you back from your thoughts. Looking over, Sirius nodded his head back.
