Chapter One:
MacIntyre Lorvil

I laid awake in my bed, staring silently at the ceiling. I listen to the sound of the clock on the wall, ticking loudly. "What am I doing here?" I thought to myself as I laid my hands behind my head.

It has been a century since the upirs rebellion, or more known as the vampire rebellion now. So many sleepless nights since I lost my dear Astoria and turned into this... this monster.

How I miss her hair, her smile, the way she would comfort me in times like these and run her fingers through my hair whilst humming a soft melody.

My thoughts were interrupted by the vibration of my phone on my nightstand. I grabbed it and sat up on the bed. I clicked on the notification. It was another girl asking me to come over.

I furrowed my eyebrows as I blocked them and placed my phone back on my nightstand. I laid my head back on my pillow with a loud sigh as I pinched my temple. What don't these girls understand?

I'm just not interested in sleeping around. In fact, I'm not interested in romance at all. My phone vibrated again. I sighed and sat up again, silently praying that it wasn't another girl. I grabbed my phone and to my relief it was Damon.

Damon had been a close family friend of mine since before the rebellion. Except he hit a luck and they turned both him and his wife. I wish we were one of those lucky people, then maybe Astoria would still be alive.

I clicked on his notification and read his message. "Hey Mac, make sure to finish your English essay so I can copy off of you and I know what you're going to say and yes I will change it so it's not obvious."

I rolled my eyes at his text. It's not like he's bad at English, he's just too lazy to do the work. "Sorry mate, but you're not copying off me this time." I send the text and wait for his reply.

"I thought you were my friend, shame on you Macaroni, shame on you!" I scoffed at his text. He acted like such a child at times. I placed my phone back on my nightstand.

I laid back on my pillow and closed my eyes. I opened them back up feeling like an idiot because I FORGOT VAMPIRES CANT SLEE-

THERE I STOOD, wearing a white button up shirt beneath my black sweater and some black pants with a chain dangling from it. My one hand was stuffed into my pocket, whilst my other hand held a red cup.

"How the hell did I end up in this situation?"

I awkwardly shifted and looked around at the crowd of people dancing to the music in my apartment.

When Damon suggested throwing a celebration party after exams, I never would thought that he meant it to be at my place. Then again, I think he knew that I wouldn't have allowed it.

Which explains why he didn't tell me. I headed into my room and sat down on the edge of my bed, the big windows overseeing the city. My bedroom seemed more empty and... lonely.

I glanced at frame on my nightstand. It was a black and white photograph of Astoria. Oh what I would do to bring you back my love...

I sighed and ran my hands through my unruly black hair. I didn't bother fixing it, even after people started showing up. I got up and walked over to my nightstand. I picked up the frame, Astoria stood frozen in time, beside me and with the biggest, most beautiful smile I had ever seen.

The photo was taken moments after our wedding. I smiled and ran a finger down the frame in silence for a moment until I heard the toilet flush in my en suite.
