all lies, darling

Ruth Harper Everly

RUTH SQUINTED, TRYING TO LOOK at the whiteboard. She was glad Blaire stopped her from finishing that joint, she could barely focus.

Her eyes seemed to relax once the bell rang. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She really wanted to smoke. It took her mind off of things. Her mother's conversation with Blaire today had unsettled her, even though she didn't hear what her mother was saying.

Time to eat with Blairie! She thought giddily with a smile. She was really excited that Blaire was going to eat today.

"Ruth, come on," she heard a voice groan as she packed her things together.

Ruth's head shot up. "Blaire? How'd you get here so fast?"

"Mom's serious about me watching over you, she made my class let me out early," Blaire laughed. Ruth narrowed her eyes. She didn't understand her mother's motives.

"Lunch time, Blairie!" Ruth squealed. She noticed her sister narrowed her eyes. "You know what that means! You promised!"

"And you are high, so I don't have to keep my promise," Blaire said quietly, her avoidant eyes seemingly sad.

"I'm high from earlier," she chuckled. "It doesn't count."

"Fine, whatever. Just this once," Blaire said, giving in. Ruth could see her grimacing.

"Yay!" Ruth squealed, pulling Blaire in for a tight squeeze. Blaire yelped, but hugged her back. Ruth took a deep breath, feeling calm at her flowery scent. She nuzzled her nose into her sister's shoulder, taking some more deep breaths. The arms that wrapped around her never failed to comfort her.

"Ahem," they heard someone cough. Ruth's teacher was standing there. Ruth rolled her eyes, detaching herself from Blaire and swinging her backpack over her shoulder. He was impatient, wanting his student he despised so much gone.

"Fuck you," she said, flipping him off with a glare. "Come on, darling."

She glared as Blaire apologized for her, and stomped out of the classroom. Blaire ran to keep up with her.

She walked through the cafeteria line, grabbing a grilled cheese for Blaire. She had already packed her lunch. Today was the day she got her sister to eat!

"We're gonna go sit by the tree," Ruth said, grabbing Blaire's hand and running outside to where her group gathers.

"Woah, you dragged her along," her girlfriend, Venus, said laughing. No one knew her real name, she didn't tell anyone. She had her name legally changed to Venus, and it suited her. Venus was the hottest planet, and her girlfriend was one of the hottest girls, no, people, she knew.

"Mom found out I was smoking," Ruth giggled, plopping beside her girlfriend. "She sent Blairie to make sure I didn't get too high."

She pressed a kiss to Venus' lips, giggling as she tasted the weed on her lips. She licked her top lip, asking for an entrance, which Venus happily accepted. Their tongues' danced in Venus' mouth, and Ruth smiled at the taste of weed on her girlfriend.

Her friend, Damien, cleared his throat, and the two broke apart, not at all embarrassed.

"Ruth, darling," Damien chuckled, shaking his head. "Kissing your girlfriend for weed, I see?"

"Ruth!" Blaire gasped, playfully slapping her.

"Ah, Mom won't find out," Ruth sighed, still tasting Venus on her lips. "You'll understand once you have your first kiss with a girl. Men, they cannot kiss!"
