The Silent Tension

Aurora, after a prolonged battle with procrastination, finally decided to take a shower. She dressed warmly, aware of the chill outside.

Heading downstairs, she was relieved to see the cleaners working and noted that Lucifer had not yet arrived. Curious about his whereabouts, she approached one of the workers.

"Um, excuse me, ma'am?" Aurora called out. "Good morning!"

The worker, a young girl with wide, fearful eyes, quickly approached and bowed. "Good morning to you too, ma'am! How can I help you?"

Aurora smiled warmly. "What's your name? Have you seen Mr. Knight?"

The girl’s eyes widened momentarily as she stuttered, "M-my name is Arwen. The young master went to his meeting."

Aurora placed a loving hand on Arwen's shoulder. "You have a very unique and gorgeous name, just like you, Arwen."

For a moment, it seemed like Arwen might cry, but Aurora dismissed it as her imagination. She moved to the kitchen to make herself something to eat but was halted by a sudden flood of memories. She forced herself to stop reminiscing and settled for a cup of coffee instead. Enjoying her coffee with whipped cream, she decided to visit the library for some reading.

It took Aurora an hour to find the library. She settled into a corner near a window overlooking the back of the mansion and the surrounding forest. Opening the window to let in fresh air, she picked up a book titled "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck." She chuckled at the title and began to read. Hours passed unnoticed until evening fell. She had missed lunch, engrossed in her book, when a noise startled her.

Someone had entered the library and cleared their throat. Aurora looked up and froze when she met Lucifer's gaze. A lump formed in her throat, and she felt a slight shiver but managed to hide it.

"I see my little wife loves to read so much that she didn’t realize her husband has arrived, hm?"

Lucifer’s POV

Returning from a long day of tedious mafia meetings, I was exhausted and yearned for my bed. However, a thought nagged at me: Aurora. I called out her name upon entering the living room but received no response. Growing concerned, I prepared to contact security when a worker informed me that Aurora was in the library.

I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Since when?"

"Since morning after you left, she hasn’t left the library. She even missed her lunch and supper," the worker replied without looking up.

Impressed, I headed to the library. I found Aurora curled up in a bean bag near an open window, engrossed in her book. She looked peaceful, with her round glasses, red fluffy cheeks, button nose, and full rosy lips. I shook off inappropriate thoughts, reminding myself I was supposed to hate her.

Approaching her with a teasing smirk, I coughed to get her attention. She looked up, eyes filled with fear, breaking my heart for a moment. She shivered slightly but tried to cover it up, displaying a brave front.

"I see my little wife loves to read so much that she didn’t realize her husband has arrived, hm?"

Her fear reminded me of our confrontation last night, and guilt gnawed at me. She stuttered, "I-i am s-sorry I didn’t realize y-you were h-home."

Her fear didn’t satisfy me; instead, it angered me at myself. I leaned closer, making her step back toward the window. "I think I should punish you. You made me wait and worry you might’ve run away."

Her response surprised me. "I wish I could, but I know there’s no use. You will never leave me. You will always come to get your revenge."

Instead of reassuring her, I stupidly muttered, "Then don’t even think about running if you know I will come to look for you." Turning to leave, I added, "The maid informed me you were here since morning. Eat dinner; you must be hungry."

Her instant reply caught me off guard, "Her name is Arwen, not maid!" I smirked, hiding my surprise, and left.

Aurora’s POV

I can’t believe I said that! As soon as Lucifer left, I relaxed and ran my hand through my hair. Why did I have to speak up like that? But wait, did he care that I missed lunch? Is he okay? His behavior was so different from last night. Maybe he has a bipolar disorder. Shaking off the thought, I decided to eat.

After cleaning up, I headed to the dining room, finding Lucifer already eating. I quietly took my seat, unsure if I should start a conversation. He kept glancing at me, which irritated me. "Is there something you would like to ask?" I snapped.

He looked stunned, then smirked. "Actually, yes. What do you like to do in your free time?"

Dumbstruck, I blinked. "Why? Are you taking my interview or something?"

He chuckled. "Nope, just trying to see what my wife does in her little boring life."

His words triggered something in me. "At least my life is better than yours!" I stood up, realizing too late whom I was talking to. "I-I am t-tired. I w-will go a-and rest n-now!" I rushed to my room and locked the door.

Third Person’s POV

Lucifer watched Aurora leave, smirking. "Cute," he murmured. "Let’s see how much you can keep up your bravery, little bird." He leaned back, sipping his wine.
