Aurora's POV
The drive back from Lauren’s mansion is quiet. The night outside the car feels heavy, the air thick with unspoken words. My thoughts swirl, replaying the evening in fragments the warmth of Lauren’s kindness, the surprising tenderness between Lucifer and his niece, the subtle tension between us that had lingered long after dinner.
I glance at Lucifer from the corner of my eye, wondering what he’s thinking. His hands grip the steering wheel, his expression unreadable, focused on the road.
When we pull up to the mansion, the silence stretches even further. I step out of the car, the cool night breeze brushing against my skin, and follow him inside. The moment we enter, the door closes behind us with a soft click, and the weight of the evening settles between us.
I hesitate in the hallway, unsure of what to say. He’s so hard to read always shifting between cold detachment and moments of warmth that confuses me, leaving me wanting more than I’m willing to admit.
“Lucifer….” I begin softly, not even sure what I want to ask. He stops in his tracks, turning slowly to face me, and the intensity of his gaze catches me off guard. For a moment, neither of us speaks. The air between us feels charged, thick with something I can’t quite name.
He takes a step closer, his eyes locked on mine, and I suddenly find it hard to breathe. My heart hammers in my chest, the memory of his earlier words echoing in my mind. “Of Us.”
“What?” His voice is low, but there’s a softness to it now that wasn’t there before.
“I just…… I wanted to thank you,” I say, my voice barely above a whisper. “For today. For taking me to meet your sister.”
His eyes darken slightly, as if something stirs behind them. “I didn’t do it for you, Aurora,” he says, stepping closer. “But I won’t lie… I liked seeing you there.”
I blink, caught off guard by his honesty. He moves closer still, until he’s standing right in front of me, his presence overwhelming, and I feel the heat of him. My breathing becomes uneven, and I try to ignore the way my pulse races at his nearness.
“I saw the way you looked at me tonight,” He says quietly, his voice like a low hum. His hand reaches up, brushing against my cheek, and I freeze, unable to move under the intensity of his touch. “You weren’t afraid, not tonight.”
I want to deny it, to push him away, but the truth lodges in my throat. He’s right. For a brief moment, in the warmth of Lauren’s home, I had seen another side of him ——A man who could smile, a man who wasn’t the cold, ruthless stranger I had married. And that glimpse of him had undone me, vulnerable to feelings I wasn’t ready to admit.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” I manage to say, but my voice is shaky, betraying the lie.
His fingers tilt my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze, and I’m trapped in the darkness of his eyes. There’s something different in them tonight, something softer but no less intense. “Don’t lie to me Aurora. I can see it.”
The air between us thickens, and before I can think, before I can stop myself, I lean into him ever so slightly, my body responding to the pull I’ve felt since the moment I met him. His thumb brushes across my bottom lip, and the contact sends a jolt through me.
“You don’t have to be afraid of me,” he whispers, his breath warm against my skin. “I won’t hurt you.”
For a second, I almost believe him. But there’s something deeper in his gaze, something dangerous that lurks just beneath the surface. I don’t know if I should trust him or myself.
“I am not afraid,” I whisper back, though my heart betrays me with its rapid beat. The truth is, I am afraid— afraid of what he makes me feel, of how easy it is to fall into his orbit, despite everything. But I can’t stop myself from giving in to the pull that has been there since the beginning.
He leans down slowly, his lips just inches from mine, his breath mingling with mine. My body trembles with anticipation, and I don’t know if it’s fear or desire that grips me now. Maybe both. But in this moment, it doesn’t matter.
Lucifer’s lips finally met mine, softly at first, as though he’s testing my reaction. The kiss is slow, gentle, and for a moment, I forget everything— The fear, the uncertainty, the questions that have haunted me since this marriage began. All that exists is the feel of his lips on mine, the warmth of his body so close to mine.
I don’t know when the kiss deepens, but suddenly it’s more than just a brush of lips. His hand moves to the small of my back, pulling me closer, and my fingers instinctively curl into his shirt, holding onto him as if I might fall. The kiss is no longer gentle; its full of hunger, of something raw and unspoken. I can feel the tension between us unraveling, years of pent up emotions spilling out in that single moment.
When he pulls back, his breath is ragged, and his forehead rests gently against mine. My own breath comes in shallow bursts, my heart racing as I struggle to regain my composure.
“this is dangerous,” I whisper, my voice trembling.
“I know,” he replies, his thumb brushing against my cheek once more.“But you can’t deny what’s between us.”
I swallow hard, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and desire.“what happens now?”
He smiles, but it’s not the cold smirk I’ve come to know. It’s something warmer, more real. “Now, we see where this goes. But make no mistakes Aurora.”
His words sends a shiver down my spine, and I know he means it. Whatever this is between us, its far from over. And as much as I want to fight it, I can’t deny the truth —I’m already gone too far.
