Aurora's POV
Have you ever felt the overwhelming urge to disappear from the present moment? To melt away, unnoticed, into the void? That’s exactly what I’m feeling right now. Disappearing. I’m not usually this nervous, but the thought of meeting Lucifer’s sister is enough to make my heart race and my hands tremble. I take a few deep breaths, trying to calm the storm inside me before I step into the room.
“Well, hello there, my dear brother,” a voice greets us—soft but tinged with an unmistakable air of authority. I look up, my eyes drawn to the woman before me. Her chocolate-brown hair cascades down in beachy waves, reaching her waist, and her burgundy dress clings to her perfectly shaped body, accentuating every curve. She's taller than me, though not quite as tall as Lucifer. Her beauty is flawless, the kind that commands attention. Even women would fall to their knees before her.
She walks toward us, her smile gentle but poised. She hugs Lucifer, and the affection between them is undeniable. “How have you been? And what about your wife? I hear you’ve got yourself a beautiful angel.” Her eyes land on me, and I freeze, dropping my gaze to the floor. The sudden intensity of her presence makes my heart race faster, and I find the floor increasingly fascinating.
I hear the soft click of her heels as she approaches me, the sound mingling with the frantic rhythm of my heartbeat. She stops in front of me and gently lifts my chin, guiding my eyes to meet hers. Her smile is warm, unexpectedly soothing. "Hello there, Mrs. Lucifer. I’m Lauren, this big idiot’s sister.”
A small smile escapes me at her teasing, though I can’t ignore the heat of Lucifer’s glare as he watches our interaction. “Hello, Ms. Lauren. I’m Aurora. It’s nice to meet you.”
Lauren’s smile grows even brighter, and before I know it, she’s leading us toward the lounge. There, her husband, David, sits with a little girl, about five years old. She’s introduced as their daughter, and before I can process much, the girl, Areum, bolts toward Lucifer, clinging to his legs.
“Uncle, uncle! You’ve finally come! I’ve been waiting for you!” Her joy is contagious, and I watch in awe as Lucifer smiles down at her. Not the usual smirk, but a genuine, beautiful smile that makes my heart skip. For a moment, I forget myself, simply staring at the sight of him. That is until I hear David clear his throat and feel Lauren nudge me slightly, snapping me back to reality.
“Why don’t you help me in the kitchen while our men set the table, love?” Lauren’s voice is warm and welcoming, and I nod, standing to follow her. As we walk, I feel the weight of Lucifer’s gaze on my back. Unable to resist, I turn slightly, catching his intense stare before I’m pulled into the kitchen by Lauren.
The kitchen takes my breath away. It’s grand, spacious, and bathed in natural light streaming through arched windows. A massive marble island dominates the center, surrounded by polished granite countertops and custom cabinetry. Stainless steel appliances gleam, and the air is thick with the aroma of fresh ingredients. There’s even a cozy breakfast nook overlooking a lush garden—a perfect blend of luxury and warmth.
I’m lost in thought when Lauren’s voice pulls me back to the moment. “Thank you, Aurora.”
I blink, confused. “For what?”
She’s mixing a bowl of salad, her movements graceful. “For being the light in my brother’s darkness. I know you were forced into this marriage, and I know it hasn’t been easy. But I can see the light you bring into his life. He’s never let any woman get close to him, yet he holds your hand. You’re his angel, and I believe you’re the one who can guide him to happiness. Don’t let go of that power, Aurora.”
Her words hit me like a wave, and I find myself struggling to hold back tears. “Y-you realize this is wrong, right?” My voice trembles, but I need to say it.
Lauren’s eyes soften, and she places the salad bowl down, walking toward me. “Yes, I know this marriage was forced. But I also see the strength in you—the courage to fight your battles, even if you’re afraid to love again. I’ve been where you are, and it’s okay to be afraid. You’ll learn to move forward, to love again. Have faith.”
I can’t find the words to respond, too stunned by how easily she read me. She squeezes my hands gently, a reassuring smile on her face, before moving away to finish her task.
Dinner is a tense affair, filled with polite conversation and lingering glances. Lauren is kind, her elegance evident in every gesture. We exchange pleasantries, and I’m grateful for her warmth. But I can’t shake the feeling of Lucifer’s eyes on me. He’s an enigma—one moment cold and distant, the next, unexpectedly tender. I find myself caught in his orbit, both drawn to him and wary of the danger he represents.
After dinner, we retreat to the lounge, where Lucifer pours us all drinks. I sit on the edge of the sofa, my nerves still on high alert.
“Relax, this is just the beginning.” he says, handing me a glass. His fingers brush against mine, and a spark shoots through me. I look up, and he’s watching me with that same intense gaze. Lauren and David are lost in their own conversation, oblivious to the tension between us.
“The beginning of what?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper, trembling with uncertainty.
“Of us,” he replies, his gaze never faltering.
His words hang in the air, heavy with unspoken promises. Whatever lies ahead, I know it will be unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.
