The sleeping ice manipulator, Ais, was woken up by Gempa, who shook his shoulder gently but insistently.
"Ais, you're partnered up with Y/n, the new student. You should go over to her and talk about the project. At least stay awake and try to do some work," Gempa urged, his voice firm but kind.
Ais rubbed his eyes, his mind still foggy from sleep. 'New student?' he thought, scanning the room until his gaze settled on an unfamiliar face in the corner. Y/n sat there quietly, her dark (e/c) eyes focused on her notebook and papers as she wrote down notes. She seemed lost in her own world, her aura was rather intense. With a nod of acknowledgment and no questions asked, Ais dragged his tired, sluggish body over to the seat next to her. He didn't hesitate to approached, he noticed something off in her eyes—an emotion that he couldn't quite place. It reminded him of his older brother, Halilintar, but there was an added layer of fear, as if she was battling her own inner demons.
"Hey," Ais greeted softly as he took the seat beside her, trying to keep his voice gentle. "I'm Ais. We're partners for this project."
Y/n looked up from her notebook, her expression shifting from one of deep concentration to cautious interest. "Hello," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Name's Y/n."
Ais gave her a small, reassuring nod. "Nice to meet you, Y/n. So, I guess we should start talking about the project. Do you have any ideas yet?"
The (h/c) haired girl nodded, a bit more confidently this time. "Since we're supposed to create a presentation on any country's culture and write a research essay on it, I think it would be a good idea to do France. Their culinary food is rich and diverse."
Ais's eyes lit up with interest at the mention of food. "France is a good choice. Their cuisine is pretty famous. We could explore different aspects like regional specialties, famous chefs, and traditional dishes."
"Exactly," Y/n said, her face relaxing slightly though her body still held a tense edge. "We could even touch on how French cuisine has influenced other cultures and modern cooking. It might be interesting to include some visuals or bring in some samples, provided we know everyone's allergies and health concerns."
Ais nodded, genuinely enthusiastic. "Sounds good. And it would make our presentation stand out. Plus, food is always a good way to engage people."
In truth, Ais was more excited about the prospect of tasting French food for the first time. He was a glutton, often mesmerized by mukbang videos and pictures of exotic dishes that filled his social media feeds. This project was the perfect excuse to indulge his curiosity and appetite. As the pair continued discussing their ideas, Y/n felt her initial anxiety begin to dissipate. Ais was easy to talk to, and his calm demeanor made her feel more comfortable. She appreciated how he listened to her ideas and built on them. For the first time in a long while, Y/n felt truly heard and respected.
