Of all the times for Erwin to request to see him, it had to be during the time Levi was supposed to meet____. It had been three days. Lifting his hand, he imagined how soft she would feel as he pulled her against him, how fantastically dirty she would sound as he ravaged her lips.
But he couldn't let himself get distracted. He had to hurry through his meeting with Erwin so he could see her.
All good things came at a price.
"Levi." The commander acknowledged the moment he opened the door.
"What is it Erwin." Levi replied bluntly.
"Take a seat. Erwin said, gesturing to the chair on the other side of his desk. Levi closed the door and leaned against it, daring Erwin to ask again. The commander said nothing.
"It's about ______." He said softly. Levi tensed, suddenly keenly interested in what his commanding officer had to say.
"What about her." He couldn't keep the strain out of his voice.
"You have...feelings towards her, don't you?" Erwin asked. Levi's jaw tightened.
"What if I did?" Erwin said nothing for a moment.
"Levi..."
"Don't you dare, Erwin. Don't you fucking dare try to convince me I should leave her. She is the one thing in this world I have EVER wanted. The only thing in this hell I can call my own. So don't you even fucking think for a moment that you can convince me to let her go." Levi hissed, moving forward to slam his hands on Erwin's desk, causing the wood to shudder. Erwin didn't move, but instead looked up to meet Levi's gaze.
"You're putting her, as well as yourself, in danger. She's a distraction, Levi. If you're with her, you'll focus more on her protection than the goal. Than on yourself."
"Tch."Levi turned away, hating the truth in Erwin's words.
"I can't allow her to remain under your command. I don't even know if I can allow her to stay in the survey corps. It's too risky."
"Erwin, what are you insinuating?" Levi's eyes narrowed. Erwin sighed.
"Look, I know you may not like the idea, but I can get her a position in the Garrison. She'd be safer there..." Erwin paused, the second part of his sentence hanging in the air between them.
...And less of a distraction to you.
Erwin was right. Levi would protect _____ above anyone else-anything else- even his own duty. She had become more than something to fight for. She was the one thing he lived for. But she would be safer in the Garrison. Inside the walls, a lovely trailing rose- his rose- far from where he could protect her. There was no doubt that someone, somewhere would notice her beauty and try to pluck her.
And there was no way in hell Levi would allow that.
"Just try and take her away from me." Levi growled, turning and storming from the room. As he walked down the hall he heard a familiar pair of voices.
______'s friends.
"Where's Eren?"
"He ran off after _______, he seemed really anxious."
"Does he seem to be acting strangely to you?"
"Definitely, but can you blame him? He's been head over heels for _______ for so long, but it looks like she's fallen for someone else."
Levi froze. Eren and _____...
Then he was running, his ears ringing, his heart pounding.
No...
He passed Petra, who turned and called his name.
No...
Out the door and into the faint twilight, eyes narrowing in on the stables.
I can't lose her to someone else...
He threw open the doors, pulling out his blade as he ran towards their promised meeting spot.
I can't lose her...
Eren fell to the ground, blood pooling from the wound in his chest. Levi's eyes fell onto the floor, onto her body on the floor, and for a moment all time stood still.
Then he saw the slight rise and fall of her chest.
Then he was on his knees, pulling her fragile body into his arms, holding her against his chest, burying his face in her messy hair and kissing her head again and again and again as she cried into his chest. His light was flickering. His flower wilting. Nothing lasts forever. And she was such a delicate and precious thing...
"It's okay now, I'm here. You're safe. And I'm never going to let you go."
