Haruka and Michiru found ChibiUsa and Hotaru sitting on a bench in the back garden. Despite - between the three women's jobs - being more than rich enough to pay a gardener to maintain the picturesque garden Setsuna, Haruka, Michiru and Hotaru all maintained it themselves. They found that nurturing the plants or just getting down in their hands and knees to weed, or remove harmful pests was very theraputic. It gave them a sense of normalacy amidst all the impossibilities of their lives. Hotaru found - for herself - that it reminded her of what the Princess was fighting for and the need to maintain constant control.
It made it easier to not destroy everything around her.
Out of all the Sailor Guardians known to exist Sailor Saturn remained the most feared and with good reason. Her's was the most destructive power ever found in a Guardian and no one knew why it was like that. All they did know was that Sailor Saturn was so old that she had arrived in the Milky Way galaxy as part of Queen Serenity's inner court... And Queen Serenity had been an immortal who had ruled for a very, very long time. By the time the Silver Millennium had fallen it was all-but forgotten that they had originated in the Andromeda Galaxy.
"ChibiUsa!" Haruka called to the pink haired girl as she and Michiru walked over, "I have a question for you."
"Shoot." The yet-to-be-born Princess invited.
"Why does the reincarnation of the Princess' father have to be at the Dove and Rose by 1:30 today?"
"Who?" ChibiUsa asked, confused.
"Kumo Tenka." Haruka said pointedly.
ChibiUsa's eyebrows shot up into her hairline as she stared at Haruka like she had grown a second head. Haruka exchanged a glance with Michiru, both of them coming to the unexpected realization that ChibiUsa hadn't known about her personal connection to the man. Looking at the pink-heaired girl again they started explaining. Hotaru added in a few cryptic comments, that the other three knew full well was unintantional. Unlike the other Sailor Guardians she had all of her memories intact, so she simply knew things that they didn't and often commented accordingly.
"Wait, so does that mean that I'm related to Sailor Mars?" ChibiUsa asked, feeling as confused as the older Guardians had less than ten minutes ago and completely skipping past her double relation to Venus.
"Stricktly speaking..." Michiru answered, "Yes and no. According to protocol and genetics no. Legally... Yes. At least under the laws of the White Moon."
"Ah. Right."
"There, there." Hotaru said to ChibiUsa sympathetically as she patted her friend on the head, "It's politics."
"Politics." Haruka agreed with a sigh.
"Politics." Michiru agreed sagely, arms crossed.
"Politics." ChibiUsa stated wryly.
Sometimes one word was all it took to summerize and explain an entire situation. At least when the context of said situation is known.
They hated politics.
"By the way," Haruka said after a moment, "You still haven't answered my question."
ChibiUsa looked up at the sandy-haired and blue-eyed racer and contemplaited how to answer (while wondering if Haruka and Michiru were related, given how much they looked a like). Finally she decided to first assertain how much they knew. It would tell her how much she could safely explain.
"Do you know how Puu-chan came to guard the Gates of Time and Space?"
Surprised by the question Haruka exchanged another glance with Michiru, then looked back at ChibiUsa.
"She was the only one that could control the Gates..."
"But why did it become neccessary?"
Haruka studied her intently, measuring and wighing her response.
"Chaos breached them." Haruka finally said.
"And it rewrote the course of events to suit it's desires." ChibiUsa added.
Haruka's and Michiru's eyes went wide as realization dawned for both of them. Hotaru regarded ChibiUsa with old eyes and a distant expression. ChibiUsa didn't notice her friend's expression.
"ChibiUsa, what are you doing?" Haruka asked, a bit breathless with fear.
"Helpng mama make paths cross. Whether the severed bonds are re-woven in their lives is up to them, but everything will fall if we - the Sailor Guardians - remain isolated like Chaos wants." ChibiUsa paused for a beat as she placed her hand over her heart, "Our power comes from our especially bright starseeds. Like a heart crystal it resides within the heart. When our hearts become dim our power wanes and we become vulnerable to Chaos. If Chaos has an opening into our hearts then it will take that opening and rip it wide open. Your mind will no longer be your own. Chaos will control you, your actions, your very thoughts. So Chaos wanted all Sailor Guardians isolated. It wanted us lonely, afraid and tired. So it breached the Gates and rewrote our lives and history accordingly. Mama and Queen Serenity managed to stave off the loneliness for every Sailor Guardian they came into contact with, but they were only two and the Sailor Guardians many." ChibiUsa's hand clench over her breast, "Chaos will win in the end. Everything will fall and be devoured. The bonds must be rewoven - for everyone's sake."
Silence followed her words, neither Haruka, nor Michiru knowing what to say in the face of such bleak words. They had personally experienced having Chaos control them, so they understood exceedingy well what ChibiUsa was saying and the dangers of being isolated. As the two continued to grapple or words Hotaru seemed to know how to respond. She wrapped an arm around ChibiUsa's shoulders in a hug.
"We will help however we can." The young, ancient Guardian promised her pink-heaired friend, "You have my word."
