Eliana had always dreamed of waking up in her husband's arms with her head against his chest, but that was all before she'd actually met her husband. The Prince wasn't awful, he was just different, so she was shocked when she woke up and found herself in his arms.
He had his one arm snaked around her waist, and the other was in her hair, carefully stroking some strands.
There was no heart beating under his chest, but she was certain hers was beating rapidly. "Good evening," he muttered, his voice deep and husky.
She turned her eyes up to look at him without tilting her head to find that he was already looking at her eyes.
Vampires were known to be cursed creatures, but in reality they bore a singular curse and enjoyed hundreds of gifts, one of them being beauty, that seemed to magnify tenfolds in the natural light where the sun didn't brush against the Prince's skin, but casted enough light in the room to make him glow like a god.
All his sinfulness seemed to vanish under the light where he looked no sort of the ravaging beast that he was. The late evening hues made him look more of an angel, the creature Eliana wondered if he once was.
She couldn't help herself-couldn't stop the urge to tangle her fingers in his silver hair that looked almost golden in the sunlight and he didn't stop her. "Would you be so kind and get the blinds, my little robin?" he asked as a sheet of clouds blocking the sun moved with the winds, exposing the room to the morning sun.
Eliana nodded before moving to her feet with practised agility that she'd taken years to develop, and walked to the window only to realize that she was in nothing but a thin white underdress.
She pulled the curtains while muttering reassurances to herself.
He's your husband.
He most certainly was, but that wasn't the only thing he was. He was a vampire with less sanity and more unsatiable lust for blood. He was stronger: he could kill her, ravish her, drain her entirely of blood, all at his will.
She was no match against his immortal strength.
She turned around to find another consolation for herself, to tell herself that he wasn't looking and hence, he couldn't be thinking of ways to hurt her. Instead, she found his eyes clung to her frame as if ready to capture every moment, every flicker of emotion going through her, and she was certain she had seen her previous thoughts on her face, for his face had hardened.
He reached for a black robe hanging on a chair to his side and all but threw it at her. "Leave," came out his command in a cold, ruthless tone, and just like that, their perfect little illusion was shattered.
Flustered, Eliana pulled the robe over her petite frame while trying not to let the shame and embarrassment show over her face. She dipped her head and walked herself to the door which unlocked by itself and opened as well.
She didn't need to have someone to tell her that it was Alex to know it was him. However, she didn't turn around, she walked straight up to her room, not throwing back a single glance even as she heard him rise and felt his gaze the entire journey from his room to hers. It hauntingly followed her, leaving aftermath strong enough to burn her back even hours later at the mere thought of it.
Night passed with ease, starting with Eloise forcing Eliana to try dress after dress and match it with the jewellery and ending with her quietly reading a romance novel on her bed. She had no sort of hardships in her life, but she couldn't help but yearn for all the love she'd read about the female leads in her books have.
No life was perfect except the ones that were fictional. She had learned that the hard way, and even though the Prince didn't love her, he had been nothing short of kind towards her.
