I'm not fond of erasure of any kind. And yet, I see too many people shipping Billie from Billie Bust Up with other characters and completely ignoring the fact that they're aroace (meaning they are not interested in romance or sex at all).
Same thing happens with Barnaby a lot. It's depressing to read about an owl who is homoromantic, asexual and gender fluid being shipped with females or even put in positions he would not like/are not interested in. I have read a Barnaby fanfic that started off really good on Wattpad but then decided to completely erase the LGBTQ+ side of things. Like putting Barnaby in uncomfortable positions and having Billie herself simp over someone who shouldn't be shipped with Barnaby at all because they're female.
I've kept quiet about it for a while despite the hatred for erasure. But enough is enough. I have decided to write close to the canon on purpose. I add my own little spin to keep it fresh so that I don't accidentally get mistaken for someone official. That's why Sonic remained relatively the same in Sonicphobia despite being devious and nine feet tall and fanged. That is what makes it unique. If you stay close to the source material and add a unique spin, nobody should be getting mad.
