The White Room
Part 1
Licking Their WoundsEzra and Kanan had failed. Miserably. And they paid a high price physically and mentally. After returning to the Ghost base, Hera thought it was crucial to get the boys to the med bay at Jun Sato's station to be treated properly at their shipyard facility. Ezra's hand and wrist had been injured when Darth Vader destroyed his blaster saber, and of course Kanan had lost his sight in his battle with Maul. It was highly urgent to get him seen if there was any possiblity to restore his vision or heal his eyes, any sort of slim chance provided them with a shred of hope, no matter how small, but they knew they had to act fast. Kanan had wrapped a cloth band over his injured eyes to protect them. Ezra had locked himself in his room as the Ghost traveled. He was in pain and filled with a slew of dark negative thoughts. The crew just assumed he was upset and wanted to be alone, but little did his wounded master know that he was meditating with the Sith holocron to activate and open it.
The Ghost arrived at the rebel station base where the liberator was docked. Hera would be meeting with Jun, and Ezra and Kanan would head to the med bay facility as instructed. Ezra was very nervous and worried as so many thoughts flooded his stress filled mind, he stood next to Kanan as they landed. He held his right arm close to his body, guarding his injured wrist and hand. He glanced up at his master, waiting instinctively for him to start walking so he could follow. But quickly Ezra realized he had forgotten that with his blindness he was lost and vulnerable, no longer able to take charge of situations or take the lead. Speaking of lost and vulnerable, Ezra felt the exact same way. He reached out his left hand and gently grabbed onto Kanan's right hand. He turned to look down towards Ezra, Ezra looked up sadly, feeling uncertain without seeing the confident gaze of his masters eyes. Ezra gave his hand a slight squeeze and started walking, leading Kanan down the ramp towards the med bay. They entered the building and walked down a small corridor, the double doors at the end of the hall opened as the boys drew near, inside were some seats and small tables for people to wait. Ezra walked towards the small desk where a small Rodian was sitting with a data pad. She didn't seem to notice them walk in, Ezra went to speak but no words came out, after a few moments instead he cleared his throat loudly to get her attention.
"Oh!" She looked up, her eyes wide. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you. You must be Ezra and Kanan. Commander Sato had put in the rush request for you to be seen. I will alert the doctor that you have arrived at once." She stood up and went thru another door behind her and was gone.
Ezra let out a heavy sigh, Kanan could feel the anxiety and stress in his Force energy, he placed a hand gingerly on his shoulder, "Everything's going to be ok Ezra." Ezra looked up at his master, he was so afraid that they would not be able to heal his blindness, his guilt and heartache was suffocating him. Kanan could sense these thoughts within his apprentice too and tried to force a small reassuring smile, "We'll find a way to get thru this, we always do."
Ezra started to choke up, he squeezed his eyes shut and tried to swallow away the lump of emotion in his throat, "I trust you Kanan." He whispered dryly, he knew no matter how he was feeling, he needed to be the strong and supportive one for his master, he was the one who was truly in the dark and afraid.
The Rodian came back thru the door, "I apologize for the delay, I have notified the doctor and he will be here shortly, he was called away for an emergency but is already on his way back. It shouldn't be much longer."
Ezra felt his chest tightening with frustration, Kanan's eyesight was highly urgent, time was of the essence, but he knew it wasn't the girls fault and he frankly didn't have the energy to argue, he simply nodded his head to her, "Thanks."
"Please have a seat while you wait." She gestured towards the opposite end of the room where there were some comfortable looking couches and chairs.
"Come on." Ezra whispered as he grabbed Kanan by his arm and led him towards the chairs. There was another young man who looked about Kanan's age or so, sitting and waiting in one of them, he seemed a little annoyed to be waiting and Ezra could definitely understand his feeling of impatience. He glanced up at the two newcomers as Ezra helped Kanan sit down. Ezra turned to him and gave a slight nod, "How ya doin." Ezra mumbled, trying to be polite given their current situation. The young man looked up at them thru his long dark scraggly bangs and gave a curt nod back. Ezra sat down in a chair next to Kanan and looked around the room, the awkwardness in the air was thick and uncomfortable. He glanced around the plain white room and quickly grew bored, he turned and flashed a grimace to the man, "So. What are you in for?"
