Six Months Later...
Ophelia heard a knock on her door while she was combing her hair. Her gaze narrowed suspiciously as she wondered why this click was here at this time of the morning.
"Ophelia, can I come in, are you awake?"
Getting up from the ottoman she was sitting on, she took her hairpin and walked to the door. She was leaving for school soon and she wasn't expecting guests. She unlocked the door calmly. "Mr. Wayne, to what do I owe your visit this morning?" She got nervous as countless possibilities came to her mind. "Is Hal okay? Am I being called to duty?"
"Everything is fine, Ophelia," Bruce said, smiling at the corners of his lips to calm her down. This calmed the blonde down considerably. "Hal and I have a proposition for you, though. Let's talk downstairs."
Ophelia nodded, then returned to the room and locked the windows. She grabbed her school bag from the side and left the room, catching up with the man who had made his way down the hall. They saw the man eating cookies as he entered the kitchen.
Hal Jordan waved excitedly at the girl and quickly swallowed the food in his mouth. "Good morning, Ophelia!"
After taking a strange look at the cookies on the counter, she smiled slightly at the man. "Good morning, Hal. Have a great week."
"My God, even my friends of many years don't treat me this well." Hal said with a laugh. He moved his stool aside, got off and pointed to the other stool with his eyes. "Come on, sit down. Cookies aren't the only thing brought for breakfast. I have some rolls too."
"The cookies are from Alfred. He bakes them for Dick almost every day, and he suggested I bring them for you." Bruce said as she sat on the stool across from her. He glanced at the person looking through the refrigerator and realized why he was stalling. He cleared his throat. "You should come over to the mansion and join us for dinner sometime. Alfred would be honored to have you."
"I'll decline. I like being home at the end of the day. It's hard for me to eat anywhere else." As the fresh cookies dissolved in her mouth, their taste reached her mind like an arrow. She couldn't even chew the food in her mouth for a few seconds. She swallowed it with difficulty. "Give Alfred my thanks. It's just like... my mother's."
Bruce tried to ignore the mournful tone he was hearing.
"Then we can make our real offer," Hal said. He left a large glass of milk next to the plate, thin smoke coming out of it. Ophelia couldn't stop her eyes from shining. She tasted it instantly. Hal laughed briefly and leaned on the counter behind him. "The only ones who know that I'm your mentor right now are those in the League. And since they've seen the effort you've been putting in for six months, they accepted the suggestion I made to them with zero rejection."
"Do you approve of anything Hal said?" Ophelia asked Bruce, surprised.
He sighed. "I'm surprised too." Hal let out a series of grunts, but both ignored him. "But we, as the Justice League, can't help but accept his offer."
"You know that last month, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, and Arrow's sidekicks were gathered. Speedy didn't like it very much, and left at first. But Artemis joined the team later. They also have Martian Manhunter's nephew and Superman's clone on the team," Hal explained. "They've been conducting missions under Red Tornado's watch and working hard at their base. My offer is that you're ready to work with them as well."
Ophelia knew that her surprise was reflected in every fiber of her body. Her gaze lost focus and shifted to the ring on her left hand. It had already been six months since she had the Blue Lantern ring. After coming home from school and most of the weekends, she constantly struggled to control her powers. She followed the best diet that would suit her and tried to gain physical strength. She knew she couldn't rely on her powers forever. But everything she did would be useless in a real fight.
