"First we have to find Louis." The two friends looked at Anne. She was certainly right, finding Louis Tomlinson, the one who had started this madness, was the priority; but that did not change the fact that one big question remained in their minds: where would they find him?
As if Anne had read their thoughts, she huffed and puffed and brought her brown hair, tied up in a tail, behind her head.
"Freddie, what did your father like to do when he was in high school?" Freddie shrugged. "Something nerdy, for sure."
Although, come to think of it, the personalities of their parents were different from the way they knew them as adults and vaccinated - Harry Styles didn't go around beating the crap out of Liam - and they were almost the opposite.
So, since his father was a subspecies of funny nerd in reality, in their present, he would have been a subspecies of... serious athlete back then?
"We have to avoid looking for a needle in a haystack" Bear interjected. "So we have to divide our tasks: let's split up and look for Louis." Before Freddie and Anne could disagree or nod, the first period bell rang, and the teens slipped into the first classroom they could find, so as not to arouse suspicion: if the hall monitor caught them wandering around, they would soon find out that they did not belong to this school, and the teens could kiss their homecoming goodbye by getting into who knows what megagalactic trouble.
Anne had snuck into the first classroom she could find, following a curly-haired boy she knew: she was back in the past, so why not have a little fun finding out what adults were up to at her age?
She managed to take the seat behind Harry and Zayn, who were sitting close together, and nudged a petite girl with glasses.
"You're so rude!" She had snapped back with a curl of her lips. "Ssh." Styles hinted, still shooing her away. Without making a sound, Anne moved the desk slightly forward, almost against the backs of the two boys.
The professor - Benson, they called him - began to explain a very boring lecture on physics and kinetimatics.
Anne wasn't listening, of course, she was more interested in what Harry and Zayn were saying to each other, although the latter seemed to be more interested in playing Angry Birds than listening to his friend.
"I'm going to kick that guy's ass." She heard Harry grunt after a while. Anne saw Zayn pause his game, glance at his friend for a moment, and then hit the start button again.
Harry, as if he understood the silent signals Zayn was giving him as he played, whispered, "That Payne...he dared to invite Briana to the Enchantment Ball." Zayn was silent for a moment. "Come on, Harry," He laughed. "Payne is a loser and Briana will never go out with him. Besides, why are you acting like a jealous idiot, we all know Briana has been - and is - hooking up with the whole school." He shook his head as if that was all absurd talk.
"Zayn-"
Malik interrupted him. "And you do the same, so if she wants to get fucked by that loser, let her."
Anne opened her mouth wide. She knew Zayn Malik well, as he had been her godfather and adopted uncle since her birth and for seventeen years; and never in her life had she heard him talk so crassly.
He was always serious, locked in his office with his nose to the paperwork, and he always insisted that everyone use proper language, scolding his own friends-and his own wife-if they dared to say a bad word. And every time that happened, Zayn Malik would burst in with a "language, please."
