"Everyone, done?" Miss Dimas asked the class.
Today's subject is 21st century literature. Miss Dimas asked us to read The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost na nasa libro namin. I repeatedly read the whole selection while understanding its meaning.
"Okay, time is up! And look here" Miss Dimas announced while pointing to the television on the left side of the classroom.
In the powerpoint, there is a man with a backpack and he's looking ahead of the road but the road diverge into two paths. The first path is the path that is already known and most visited ng mga hikers katulad niya while the second path actually has no path at all. It's just a forest with tall and big trees.
"Now, I would like to ask everyone. Would you rather choose the right path that is already known and proven to be safe or choose the left path, that is unknown and no one knows if it is safe?" Miss Dimas asked.
Recitation time.
I voluntarily raised my hands and caught Miss Dimas eyes.
"Okay, Ms. Ventura. What are your thoughts?"
"For me, I would chose the right path since it's already proven to be safe and it's already trustworthy. Why would you bother trying a new path when there's already a path that is easier and safer for you? I think it's a no brainer and chose the right path. If you are curious about the left side, well we all know that curiousity kills the cat. I would chose the right path, miss." I explained to her. She motioned me to sit down and I did.
"Your answers really reflects your personality, I assume that Miss Ventura is not the type of person who is adventurous and try new things" Miss Dimas explained.
I chuckled softly, well she's partly right. My answer really reflects me but there's so much to it.
"What's your answer Mr. Faustino?"
Everyone is silent and seems to be thinking of what their answer would be. I wiped my sweat with my panyo.
"I would chose the left path miss. I think this is because I am a curious and adventuruous type of person. I yearn for fun and it would be really boring to just chose the path that everyone has chosen. What if the left path is actually more safer and cooler than the right path? What if it actually leads to a fantasy world? It's just fun to think about it that's why I chose the left path" Nathan explained earning a few soft laughter from my classmates and even Miss Dimas herself.
"That's a refreshing way of thinking about it! What if nga naman ang left path ay lagusan papunta sa Encantadia?" Miss Dimas cracked a joke kaya napatawa 'yung iba kong mga kaklase, lessening the tension around the air.
"Who else would like to answer?" Miss Dimas asked.
I roamed my eyes around the classroom nang mapagtanto kong walang nagr-raise ng hands. Gusto kong kontrahin ang sinabi ni Nathan kaya I prepared myself to raise my hands.
"Elizalde, which path would you chose?"
Napabuntonghininga nalang ako.
"I would also chose the right side of the road, miss." Ethan answered.
I think this is the first time that we agree on the same side of a question. Well, that's weird.
