Once the girl got in the car, Logan was hoping for a quiet drive. The girl had other plans, though. She wanted to talk and get to know him. But the first thing she had asked for was food.
"You don't have anything to eat, do you?" She asked. The woman's words came rushing in again. She looks scared. And maybe a little hungry too. Without a word, he opened the glove compartment in front of the passenger seat and pulled out a package of beef jerky, tossing it to her lap. He watched as she gulped it down, barely even chewing, before she pulled down her hood. The woman was right. She was still a kid. "I'm Rogue." She said.
Logan didn't say anything, not really interested in having a conversation. He just continued smoking his cigar.
"Were you in the army? Doesn't-Doesn't that mean you were in the army?" She asked, looking at the dog tags he wore around his neck. He kept quiet as he hid the tags under his shirt. "Wow."
"What?" He asked.
"Suddenly my life doesn't look that bad." She said. He didn't like the comment concerning his living situation.
"If you'd prefer the road-" He started.
"No. No. It looks great." She said sheepishly. "It looks cozy." He then noticed that she was shivering and turned on the heater.
"Put your hands on the heater." He said before reaching for her hands, but she flinched. It made him feel a bit of guilt and sympathy for her. "I'm not gonna hurt you, kid."
"It's nothing personal. It's just that... when people touch my skin, something happens." She explained.
"What?" He asked as she pulled on her gloves.
"I don't know. They just get hurt." She replied.
"Fair enough." She muttered.
"When they come out, does it hurt?" She asked, eyeing his knuckles on the steering wheel.
"Every time." He answered. "So what kind of a name is Rogue?" He asked, surprisingly keeping the conversation going.
"I don't know." She shrugged. "What kind of a name is Wolverine?" She asked in return.
"My name's Logan."
"Marie." She replied with a small smile. A few minutes of silence had passed and Rogue started to get more comfortable in his presence. "You know, you should wear your seat belt." She said.
"Look, kid. I don't need advice on auto safety from-" Logan's response was interrupted when a tree suddenly fell on the road in front of them.
With no time to react, the car hit the tree and Logan was thrown out through the windshield, his body sliding down the road. He was unconscious for a few moments before his bones snapped into place and he slowly pulled himself up to his feet. He groaned as he cracked his neck and the wound on his forehead began healing itself.
"You all right?" He asked loudly, looking at Rogue who watched him with wide eyes. "Kid, are you all right?" He asked again.
"I'm stuck!" She cried out. He stared walking toward her but stopped suddenly. The tree was ripped from its roots. He looked around, sniffing at the air when he caught an unknown smell and his claws came out.
A moment later, Logan was thrown away as a loud roar sounded from behind him. A man, Sabretooth came onto him, tossing Logan around like a rag doll until he was thrown on the hood of the car, falling unconscious. Rogue stared panicking as a fire grew behind her and the man was getting closer to her. The wind and snow grew stronger and the man turned around. The X-Men, Cyclops, Storm and the Invisible Girl, stood there, ready to take him down. Once Cyclops took the man down, the two women rushed to Rogue.
