The walk home from the bar on a night shift is very different compared to a day shift.
You were never one to be afraid of the dark but you still avoided the woodland trails after sunset.Cassian walked just ahead of you most of the way, like a bouncer of some sort.
You weren't sure if it was because your legs were a lot shorter than his so he could take longer strides.
But you refrain from telling him to wait for you.
You were already in his debt with dealing with those thugs earlier so didn't want to put him out even more.
He was your new boss and yet you had him saving your ass already, and you hadn't even put in your first shift for him.
You promise yourself you will make it up to him.
Perhaps working a few hours for free?
Or doing some errands he needed doing for the day time?
No. He probably has an assistant of some sort for that.
You could offer him something else, something a lot more personal as you suddenly find your thoughts start to race away."Urgh!" His sudden outbursts causes your thoughts to stop running.
He faces you now as you look up at him wondering what was wrong."You stink!" He rasps out not wanting to look at you.
"I..." you're taken a back. You had been cleaning a lot today, lifting heavy things in fact so maybe you were more sweaty than usual after a shift.
You were well aware that vamps have a heightened sense of smell but it doesn't stop you from lifting the collar of your shirt over your face a little, sniffing inside it to see how bad it was.Cassian laughs out "Not you...the shirt, the blood....it's old!"
"Oh!" You say slightly relieved.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know it was opened, it must of fell over in the box as I was chucking them out" you apologise.
"Take it off" Cassian tells you.
"Huh?"
"Take the shirt off" he repeats himself knowing you heard him the first time.
"Take it off and Chuck it in the bushes somewhere...cause it reeks!""I'm not...I'm not just going to take it off, I don't have anything else to wear!" You scoff at him.
"You're not wearing anything underneath?" He tilts his head at you.
"Well yeah, a bra but nothing else.." you say looking up at him.
"It's not too cold is it" he asks as you search his eyes.
Is he being serious right now?"Look, the shirt stinks, lose it or you'll be walking the rest of the way on your own" he smirks at you so you know he's not being too serious.
But something inside you tells you to do what you're told by him.
You drop your bag onto the pathway you were stood on as you waste no time in lifting the stained shirt up and over your head.
Being careful as to not make the wet side touch your face."Happy now?" You gloat Cassian but he's stunned into silence that you actually did it.
You were wearing your normal tee shirt bra so it wasn't like your underwear being bared to him was anything provocative, you had swim wear that had less coverage than this but it didn't stop him from raking his eyes over you once more.
He takes the bunched up shirt from you and tosses it into the bushes.
Seems as if he was being serious then."Better?" You ask him as your voice waivers.
He nods as he doesn't take his eyes off you.
"Now, the shorts..." he tells you as it's your turn to raise an eyebrow at him.
"You wiped your bloodied hands on them" he lifts his hand up to caress the area the spilt blood had touched but he loses his demure as you pout.
"I'm kidding" he chuckles at you.
You roll your eyes as you squat down to grab your bag from the floor, unsure what to say to him now.Feeling that same spark starting to ignite between you both, you gaze at each other a lot longer than you should have been.
He shuffles his jacket off as quick as a flash.
With his eyes on you the whole time, he brings it around your shoulders slowly though and pulls the opening together in the middle.
Not quite covering up your exposed chest.
He doesn't want to take away all the fun."Thanks" you barely whisper at him, he nods as he turns round and begins to walk back up the woodlands, closer to your uncle's old house.
"Cassian?" You almost do a little run to catch up to him as he suddenly seems very focused on getting you home.
"Cassian!" You repeat yourself, a little louder this time as you want to stand in front of him to stop him from storming off."What is this?" You ask him, flitting your eyes between both of his for an answer.
You need to know what is going on, why you can't seem to keep your hands off of him.
Why it feels as if you have to be near him 24/7 and what it was that was happening when you were face to face with him."It's Italian leather...I've had that jacket for hundreds of years" he shrugs at you as you cross your arms over your chest.
He knows that's not what you had meant.Maybe he doesn't feel the same way like you do.
You suddenly think as you drop your hands back down to your side.
What if he genuinely is baffled as to why you're asking him this. You clear your throat as the thought of him perhaps not sharing these same emotions as you do causes a lump to form there.
You shake your head at the uncomfortable feeling you have creeping up on you.Cassian narrows his eyes at you, sensing the unease you were having.
He wants to wrap his arms around you, take in your scent as he buries his head in-between that stunning cleavage of yours.
If only you knew the different types of feels and emotions he was having like he knows yours. You wouldn't be having this uncertainty growing inside you that he can feel also.
But how can he possibly explain any of this to you, he almost slipped up when you had asked him out right.
That connection you both share causing him to want to be 100% honest with you but he made a promise.
A promise he feels losing it's genuinely each time he spends time with you.Why should he keep up the pretence any longer.
He's always spent his years doing as he pleases, not under the orders of others.
Even before he was turned.
So why after hundreds of years is he doing it now?
Perhaps it's cause it's not that simple.
He knows if he tells you the honest truth about him, he also has to tell you the awful truth about why this is happening.
And that thought of upsetting you so badly causes him to keep his promise he made to the others a little while longer.
