“Y'all just gonna lock us out?” A voice said over a megaphone.
“Come on you not gonna let us get all nice and cuddled up like you all are in your cute little houses? Or let us have food from your cute little pantry?” The mocking voice said.
“How about I give y'all a little treat, Val how about you come up here and show them what they missed out on.” My heart sank when I heard that name. “No way it's her.” I thought.
“Oh man, it is good to be home. Hey there Luke!” The all too familiar voice said.
“Hey Luke, can I talk to Azalea, I just want to tell her something? Huh?” She said as Luke looked down at me and cocked his eyebrow signaling that he was asking me if I was up for it. I nodded my head yes. I walked slowly to the ladder. I got on top of the gate.
“You sure?” Luke said quietly as I came up the ladder.
“I got this.” I said.

“Well holy hell, there you are. You actually came up here.” She said in a fake shock.
“What the hell do you want, Valencia?” I hollered.
“Me? Oh I just want to tell you that, well, I would've thought you would've figured it out by now.” She began. I thought for a moment, “What could she have done- what no, she couldn't have, she, she wouldn't.”
“You wouldn't.” I said with tears forming in my eyes.
“Oh, but I would, and I did! Yea, I'm sorry, how's your mom?” She asked, knowing what she's doing.
“Oh that's right, I killed her.”

“You son of a bitch!” I yelled as I pulled up my rifle and aimed it at her quickly. Luke pushed me but I shot before he could make me miss. It hit her in the chest. Her screams filled the air.
“Now why in the hell would you do that?” The man said over the megaphone.
“Now I gotta kill you all.” Conrad was coming up the ladder as the man said something that would soon be what I blame myself for everyday of my life,
“Fire!” He shouted. And just like that, Conrad hit the floor that Luke and I were standing on. I watched as the bullet pierced his skin. The gunfire rang through the air loudly although I couldn't hear, my ears were ringing as hot tears rolled down my face.
“No! No! No!” I yelled. I pulled off his flannel shirt and put pressure on his wound.
“Conrad! Connie! Stay with me! Come on, don't leave me yet. Okay? You can't leave me yet.”
“Althea! Go get Eden!” I yelled down to her as shots rang through the air, archers killing many of The Shadow Reapers. They started to try and climb the gate as my people shot them as they did so. Just as we thought, it was a war.
“Luke! Luke! Snap out of it! We have to get him to the infirmary!” I shouted at him over the gunfire.
“Luke, I need you to focus on me. Look at me! Put pressure on this, ok?” I directed him.
“Good job, keep pressure on that, I'm gonna get something to help us get him down.” I said while looking around for something that can help. I quickly went down the ladder and grabbed a huge sheet of metal,
“Aaron! Give me a hand would you?” I yelled over the gunfire at one of the people that were important to my mother. He helped me carry the metal sheet. He called Carter over to help us. We all got the metal sheet leaned on the ladder while more people came around to help us. I was up top helping Luke.

“Ok so we're going to slide him down slowly! Alright?” I yelled loud enough for everyone helping to hear.
“Luke, grab his feet and help me slide him up.” I told him. We guided Conrad’s limp body down the makeshift ramp slowly. Everyone helped guide him as he got closer to the bottom. Carter picked him up with the help of Aaron. The rest of the people pulled down the metal sheet.
“You want us to carry him to the infirmary?” Carter asked.
“Please do. That would be great.” I responded.
“You got it boss.” Carter said. They carried him to the infirmary while Luke and I stood back up on the gate and started to shoot down at The Shadow Reapers.

I watched Valencia’s life almost escape from her eyes. People were aiding her. They put her in a vehicle and they drove off in it. I tried to shoot out the tires but it was too late. She got away. My mother's murderer got away. What used to be my best friend was gone. They had brainwashed her or maybe she brainwashed me.
More and more people kept falling on the enemy's side. Few of our own fell. The Shadow Reapers held the face of a strong army, and my people were winning. The Shadow Reapers got in their vehicles as we moved out past the gate and fired at them. The ones that were in the trees slashed their tires. We fired up on them, killing many. The dead were called by the noise and chased after them. They ran in different directions away from Fort Benning. We had won.
