"No Mom! I don't need any help!"
Max jumps awake, lifting his head up at the sudden yelling. Rubbing his eyes, he pokes his head out the bottom bunk, arm still wrapped around his teddy bear. There Bradley is, pacing around the small collage dorm on his phone, in his unusually tight clothes and now combed hair. Why comb it before you get dressed? Anyways. Bradley hasn't noticed he's awake so he listens in on this phone conversation.
"No I'm not being bullied for being gay..! Yes people might make some rude remarks but you don't need to go around paying people off! Is THIS why I've had a couple random people approach me and ask me to be friends? God. Leave me alone for once will you? Okay okay. Bye. Love you." He dramatically hangs up before sighing and leaning against the bunk bed ladder, not realising Max staring at him.
"What's that all about then?" Him speaking made Bradley jump, phone slipping out his hand and onto the wooden floor. He sighs again.
"Nothing you need to know, Freshman." He disclosed, bending down and picking up his phone, sliding it into his shorts pocket.
Max instinctively looks away, getting that feeling again. Oh god. There it is again. Ignore it Max it's just because he looks feminine.. "Alright.. calm down Brad-"
"BRADLEY!" he snaps, clearly he isn't in a good mood. He angrily marches over to the kitchen, brewing a pot of coffee.
Max rolls his eyes before getting out of bed, one of the straps of his vest sagging slightly. He walks into the small excuse of a kitchen in the dorm. It's weird this collage even has kitchens.. oh well.. at least we don't have to use the shitty school canteen.. Bobby got food poisoning from the food there.. dickhead..
Bobby. He should check up on him. Make a mental reminder. And PJ. He sighs again.
Bradley angrily grabs the bag of coffee beans from the cupboard, clearly taking out his frustration out of appliances but resisting the urge to break anything, after all this is Max's dorm and he wouldn't appreciate it. He started to brew the coffee, grumpily tapping his foot as he waits for it to brew. Max appears from behind him, leaning against the doorframe.
"Come on. Tell me what's wrong... I'll leave you alone for the rest of the day if you do." Max bargains.
Bradley huffs before standing up straight, he turns to face him. "It's my mother. You know. News spread far that me and Tank were actually dating the whole time and she's scared I'm gonna get bullied for it. She worries too much" He complains, leaning against the countertop "And.. you know getting kicked out the Gammas." He looks away.
Max lets out a chuckle at his behaviour. "Atleast she supports right..?" He says, walking over to the countertop and leaning on it too, next to Bradley.
"Oh.. Max Max Max.. you don't know how supportive this woman can get." He continues to talk as the coffee machine dings, pouring himself a cup as he does. "This woman has been smothering me with love and support since 5AM when she found out."
Max looks him up and down, letting out another little laugh before speaking up, watching him seamlessly pour the coffee. "Dad was like that, well. I thought I was bisexual in high school. I have no idea now." He declared.
Bradley stops and looks at him for a second, a slight expression of shock on his face before he returns to the mundane task on hand, sipping the now full coffee mug. He takes a long sip before speaking up again. "I would assume Old Goof would be supportive of something like that."
"Dad would be supportive of anything like that.." Max replies with, getting his own mug out and pouring out a a cup of coffee. "I mean. I'm still not sure about my sexuality now."
"Hah. Baby Goof.. liking men.. I could tell." Bradley mutters as he sips his cup again.
Max gives him a weird look before chugging the rest of the coffee and placing the mug down. "Getting changed then leaving for class."
About a couple hours later, Bradley was walking down, his head buried in some shitty book.. something for the book report when he bumps into something. Something familiar. He looks up from his book. Tank. For fucks sake.
"Hey baby. Long time no see." Tank looks down at him, towering over him as always. Bradley used to like that, back when they were dating that is but with the power dynamic gone.. it wasn't the most appealing. "How are you coping without me, huh?"
Bradley twists her face into a scowl, crossing his arms. "Better. Actually." His snobby attitude is coming back.
"Word came out that you were seen walking back to Baby Goof's dorm. How did that come about then?" He leans over, making their height different less outward but backs him into a corner.
Bradley scrunches his nose. "He- I'm just bunking at his until I can get my own place- it's nothing. Not like I need you-!" He stomps his foot down.
"Whatever sweetheart. You'll be crawling back soon enough. Goof isn't half as big-"
"I AM NOT DOING THAT WITH HIM!" Bradley yells, making everyone around them on the campus turn their heads but loosing interest quickly.
"Whatever Brad. Have fun being with Goof. He's a good guy so he won't put up with your bullshit for long." Tank says before walking away with his non existent grace.
"ITS BRADLEY!" He yells but he's gone before he can yell anything else. He sighs and continues with his day, a newfound anger in him.
While this all happens, Max had finished his classes, sat in the Bean Scene coffee shop, catching up with P.J. Normally he's here anyways, watching his girlfriend, that poetry beret girl say her poetry.. since then he's adopted her style. It's endearing in a way. Max is happy for him.. They sit down at a table, coffee on each hand as his girlfriend sets up the mics and stuff.. they catch up. He's learnt the P.J. actually started to do poetry too.. whether this is a phase or not just for this girl is another question but.. he's happy so Max doesn't care.
"So.. Max.. Someone told me you were seen with Bradley coming back to your dorm in the middle of the night 2 nights ago." P.J. states, sipping his coffee.
"I felt bad. He got kicked out.. I took him in.. I'm sure he'll be leaving soon." Max shoots back with, a bit defensive.
"I mean it's fine man if you're- you know I was supportive"
"What are you hinting at P.J...?" Max tilts his head slightly, then he realises. "Dude! No!" He tries to look appalled... maybe he wouldn't mind that.
"Sorry sorry..! It's just I know you've been questioning things since middle school- and with Bobby- oh it's just rumours I'm sorry Max!" P.J. went on a tangent.
"P.J. it's okay." He pats his shoulder. "God. Who's making these rumours." Max mumbles.
"Everyone's talking about it.. they think you hooked up..-"
"Oh for fucks sake..!" Max cuts him off again. "Sorry P.J. I have to go." Max stands up, taking his coffee.
"Max wait..!" P.J. yells but it's too late, Max is on his skateboard and out the building.
"What's the skater boys deal?" Beret Girl says into the mic as a mic check.
"Everyone thinks he's gay with Bradley Uppercrust the 3rd." P.J. announces, saddened look due to Max leaving so early. It really has been a while since they spoke.
"Ah. Like a butterfly in a cage one's true desires must be set free." She responds with.
"Sarah I don't think they're actually gay."
"Gay or not. Everything comes out at one point. Even your gay little friend in denial." She responds with.
"Eh. Maybe they are. Who knows."
