Rawena stood by the window of her new apartment, gazing out at the bustling street below. The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over Central Park, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment settle over her. Despite her rocky start with Carter, she was determined to focus on the positives of her new life.

As she sipped her tea, her thoughts drifted back to her conversation with Audrey earlier that day. They had met for lunch at a cozy cafe near Audrey's art gallery, and Rawena had filled her in on the latest developments with Carter.

"He apologized?" Audrey exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise. "Well, that's unexpected."

Rawena nodded, stirring her latte thoughtfully. "I know. I wasn't expecting it either. He actually seemed... sincere."

Audrey raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Do you trust him?"

Rawena hesitated, unsure of how to answer. "I'm not sure. He caught me off guard, that's for sure."

Audrey leaned forward, concern etched on her face. "Just be careful, Rawy. Guys like that—"

"—are trouble," Rawena finished for her, nodding in agreement. "Believe me, I know."

Audrey reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "If he gives you any more trouble, you know you can always count on me to help you kick his ass."

Rawena laughed, grateful for her friend's unwavering support. "Thanks, Auds. I appreciate it."

They spent the rest of their lunch catching up on Audrey's latest gallery exhibition and Rawena's plans for decorating her new apartment. Audrey was thrilled to hear that Rawena had finally settled on a place so close to Central Park.

"Imagine all the morning jogs you can take," Audrey said dreamily, swirling the last dregs of her coffee in her cup. "And the people-watching!"

Rawena chuckled, picturing herself running along the park's winding paths. "I can't wait. It's going to be a whole new adventure."

After lunch, Rawena and Audrey walked back to their respective workplaces, promising to meet up again soon for a girls' night out. Rawena felt lighter after talking to Audrey, her worries about Carter temporarily pushed to the back of her mind.

But as she stood by the window now, the memory of her encounter with Carter earlier that day resurfaced. She couldn't shake the image of his sincere apology and the genuine look in his eyes. It was unsettling, to say the least.

Just then, there was a knock on her door, pulling Rawena from her thoughts. She frowned, wondering who it could be. She hadn't been expecting anyone.

Opening the door cautiously, Rawena was surprised to find Carter standing there, holding a small box in his hands. His usual cocky smirk was replaced by a more subdued expression, almost hesitant.

"Hey," he said softly, holding out the box to her. "I, uh... brought you something."

Rawena eyed him warily, taking the box from his hands. "What's this?"

Carter shrugged, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. "Consider it a peace offering."

Rawena frowned, opening the box to find a bouquet of flowers inside. They were simple yet elegant—white lilies, her favorite.

"They're beautiful," she admitted, surprised by the gesture.

Carter nodded, his gaze fixed on her face. "I thought... maybe we could start over. Put the past behind us."

Rawena studied him for a moment, uncertain how to respond. This was not the Carter she had grown accustomed to—the arrogant neighbor who thrived on teasing her. This Carter seemed genuine, vulnerable even.

"Thank you," she said finally, meeting his gaze. "I appreciate the gesture."

Carter nodded again, a small smile tugging at his lips. "You're welcome."

There was a pause, filled with unspoken tension as they stood there in the doorway. Rawena shifted uncomfortably, unsure of what to say next.

"So, uh... how's the unpacking going?" Carter asked, breaking the silence.

Rawena glanced back into her apartment, the half-empty boxes scattered around reminding her of the task at hand. "It's... going."

Carter chuckled softly. "Need any help?"

Rawena hesitated, caught off guard by his offer. "I... I think I've got it covered."

Carter nodded understandingly. "Of course. Well, if you change your mind..."

"I'll let you know," Rawena finished for him, offering him a small smile.

Carter returned the smile, but there was a hint of something else in his eyes—hope, maybe even relief. "Alright then. I'll let you get back to it."

With that, Carter turned to leave, but before he could take a step, Rawena spoke up.

"Carter," she said, causing him to turn back to her. "Thank you... for the flowers."

Carter's smile widened, genuine now. "Anytime, Rawena."

As he walked away down the hallway, Rawena closed the door behind her, leaning against it with a sigh. She couldn't deny that Carter's gesture had caught her off guard. Perhaps there was more to him than met the eye—a complexity that intrigued her despite her better judgment.

She glanced down at the bouquet in her hands, the white lilies a stark contrast against the dark wood of the box. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of something unexpected.

As Rawena settled back into unpacking, her thoughts kept drifting back to Carter and the surprising turn of events. She couldn't deny that his apology and gesture had softened her opinion of him, but she was still cautious. Trust wasn't something she gave easily, especially after past experiences.

Hours passed as she organized her belongings, finding a sense of satisfaction in creating her own little sanctuary. By the time she finished, the sun had set, casting a warm glow through her windows.

As she sat on her couch, savoring a well-deserved glass of wine, her phone buzzed with a message from Audrey.

Audrey: Hey Rawy! How's the unpacking going? Did Carter give you any more trouble?

Rawena smiled to herself, shaking her head at Audrey's protective streak.

Rawena: Unpacking's done, and surprisingly, Carter brought me flowers. Can you believe it?

Audrey: Wow, really? That's unexpected. Maybe he's not as bad as you thought?

Rawena: Maybe... I'm still not sure what to make of him. But the flowers were a nice gesture.

Audrey: Just be careful, Rawy. You know how these things go.

Rawena: I will, don't worry. Thanks for looking out for me, Auds.

Audrey: Always, babe. Now, spill the details. What else did he say?

Rawena chuckled, shaking her head at Audrey's curiosity. She typed out a brief summary of her conversation with Carter and hit send, feeling grateful for her friend's unwavering support.
