i.He's tired.
Flat on his stomach, his limbs felt out of place, while his hair spiralled as if it was getting possessed itself. To add onto that, the sharp, high-pitched beeping of his alarm he regretted even buying repeated non-stop in his ear. Despite how bad the urge was to throw it out the house and destroy it, Genya could barely open his eyelids. Droopy, slow, that's what he'd describe them if he was actually in the right mind.
"Shut, up..." While his voice remained quiet and slurred, Genya knew that he'd regret lying in bed all day. Plus, he finally has plans and could not go back to sleep and cancel them after begging 'Nemi to let him go out. It was a miracle his elder brother even listened to him propose the idea. Yawning, the boy stretched his arms, legs and twisted his body. He was laying on his back.
The sound of bones letting out some clicks broke the silence. Genya managed to open his eyes, being met with his small, (forcefully cleaned) tidy room. It was dark, but if he shifted his view he could see sun peeking through the cheap curtains. He supposes that if he lays down for a few seconds, he'd adjust to the lighting and atmosphere—"GENYA! Get your ass up." A shriek left his mouth. He realised he'd been so shocked and surprised, that he's now hanging off the edge of the bed.
Then, he landed with a hard thud on the floor.
The teenager groaned, the universe really didn't want him to have a good morning, after all.
It wasn't a surprise that the scream was Sanemi.
Living with his elder brother is like having to take care of your homework, eat, sleep and drink, and study for tests simultaneously while on a strict time limit. It doesn't help that all throughout his highschool life he's always been staying behind in class. When Tanjiro asked him to hang out he would have to decline the kind offer."Genya, at least try make an effort."
The younger is constantly reminding himself that it's not his fault that his brother had always acted so brutal. But he struggles to believe that too.
"IF I COUNT TO THREE AND YOU'RE STILL LAYING AROUND DOING NOTHING, THE CONSEQUENCES WILL BE SEVERE!!"
"Ok, ok! I'm getting up, sorry." He's been shaped and folded into an early bird.
Sluggishly, he pulled himself off his carpet. Then staggered towards his small wooden basket that contained a pile of clothes. Digging through them, his older brother slid open his door once again but it was less abrupt. "I'm leaving in five minutes. If you want to be early instead of late, hurry up." What was the time again?
Buttoning up on his white t-shirt, the school's signature - in his opinion, ugly - yellow trousers and last layer of the yellow jumper that seemed slightly tight on him. He ignored the sight of scars that lingered on his torso.
Rushing down the hall, catching a glimpse of the family pictures decorating the walls displayed along the narrow hall caused a sense of nostalgia. His older brother's pure, smiling face stared back at him.
Finally finishing his morning routine: brushing his teeth, combing his hair (skipping the breakfast part because he never did eat it) and sliding on his shoes. Picking up his bag, he saw 'Nemi waiting outside, consistently checking his watch. Genya thought that his brother genuinely considered leaving him behind.
"You're actually on time for once. Get in before I make you run." Sanemi threatened. "'Nemi, you're not actually thinking of doing that?" All he received in response was a grunt.
His family had never been rich. Even while he opened the car door and sat inside, he'd always doubted the fact that they'd buy something anywhere near as expensive as his brother's car. It was white, small and was in comparison a pretty old but clean vehicle. When his mother was alive, she'd always prize this car, reminding 'Nemi to always take care of it when she's gone.
