iii.

Chopping sounds echoed throughout the dimmed room. Nemi always aggressively chopped, regardless how worn out he was; Genya was, like always, setting out the napkins and cutlery. The metal clinking seemed to annoy the elder as a long grumpy grunt reverberated through the room. "Really?" Sighing, the younger winced, "Shut up." Harsh words cut through the air as the taller returned to his work, and the shorter began to scoop up the chopped pieces and toss them into a bowl.

Genya, sparing a glance towards the ticking clock, knew he had to tell his brother now. Waiting would be cowardly and only make the circumstances more difficult.

"'Nemi?"

"Genya—"

If only it were easier.

"So, Tsuyuri," The two were walking together through the school halls, previously passing a dozen of flyers and papers which were either club invitations or random advertisements. A bunch of homework papers, slips and other variations of teacher notes were shoved into their hands by their flaming teacher.

Two simple instructions were kindly asked by the professor: one - take the papers to Mr. Uzui, two - don't show anyone else the information. It seemed easy enough, so they agreed to it. Doing favours for people who deserved it didn't bother him, and this was a chance to make a start with Kanao.

"Mhm?" She hummed. The other noticed how quiet she was, easily managing to bury her thoughts in her mind. "Well, that proposal... If it's too much to ask, then don't worry, but it was just..." The raven haired girl chuckled sweetly, smiling up at him again.

"Yes, it's quite alright. After all - I was the one who suggested it, right?" As words settled in, he guessed that she potentially had a point. He spoke slowly, "So, what's their names again?"

"Oh. Yes," said Kanao, seeming to have already started planning the eventual words in her head, "You've met Zenitsu and me, so that leaves Aoi, Nezuko and Inosuke... I must warn you, Inosuke is a lot to handle. We all get by though. After observing, I've noticed that Aoi's normally the logically thinking one. Aside from Tanjiro-san, she's normally looking out for us.

I'm positive Zenitsu wouldn't have given a decent first expression, but please know he's a good person at heart. I request that you understand that last year, and currently now, some issues have been occurring. Of course, I'm aware it's not specifically my place to tell you this, but I want you two to grow close. Zenitsu tends to accidentally close himself off to people he doesn't feel comfortable around. Hopefully he feels the opposite around you."

Pausing for a breath, she continued talking, "I mentioned Nezuko. She has trouble speaking, but that doesn't stop her from being supportive of everyone. I must say, she tends to get ahead of herself and forgets to acknowledge herself too. But she's dropping out of that habit." He could've sworn there was a slight blush that rushed into her cheeks. "So, Shinazugawa, I wholeheartedly support your arrival into our group, and I hope you'll grow to enjoy us too."

Woah. That was a lot to take in. Despite him listening intently to her words, he couldn't exactly comprehend it completely. He attempted running the same words through his head again, desperate for some sort of understanding, but it failed to have the same effect. Something about building cheesy connections with mustard boy. The other names she mentioned... Inosuke, Nezuko and Aoi...
