As they made their way through the winding corridors of Hogwarts, the sounds of distant laughter and the clattering of dishes drifted towards them, a reminder of the bustling life within the castle walls. Hermione felt a sense of peace settle over her, the comforting presence of Luna by her side making the castle feel more like home than it had in weeks.

Reaching the kitchens, they were greeted by the warm, sweet aroma of baking and the cheerful chatter of the house elves. One of the elves, a particularly sprightly one named Winky, bounced forward to greet them.

"Miss Granger, Miss Lovegood, what can Winky be getting for you today?" she asked, her large eyes twinkling.

"We heard there might be treacle tart?" Hermione inquired, her mouth watering at the thought.

"Oh yes, Miss! Winky has just taken it out of the oven. Winky is making sure it's perfect for Hogwarts students!" the elf exclaimed, bustling off to fetch them a slice each.

While they waited, Luna leaned closer to Hermione, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Do you think you could ask them about the Nargles?"

Hermione smiled, amused by Luna's unwavering belief in the creatures. "Of course, Luna. Let's see what they say."

Turning to another house elf who was tidying up nearby, Hermione asked, "Excuse me, have you by any chance seen any Nargles around here?"

The house elf paused, its brow furrowing in confusion. "Nargles, Miss? I is not knowing what Nargles is, but we is always seeing strange things in Hogwarts!"

Luna nodded sagely, as if this confirmed all her suspicions. "They're very elusive, you see. Only those who really look can ever hope to see them."

Just then, Winky returned with two generous slices of treacle tart, placing them before Hermione and Luna with a proud smile. "Here you go, Misses. Enjoy your tart!"

Thanking Winky, they took their plates and found a cozy corner to sit. As they ate, the sweetness of the treacle tart seemed to echo the sweetness of their friendship—a rare and precious find in the vast, sometimes lonely, halls of Hogwarts.

Their conversation drifted from magical creatures to their classes, and then to plans for the upcoming holiday. Hermione felt a profound gratitude for Luna's unique perspective and genuine kindness, which had a way of turning even the darkest days into something a little brighter.

As the evening drew on, they finished their treat and prepared to leave the kitchens. Hermione felt refreshed, not just from the food but from the company and the laughter they shared. "Thanks, Luna," she said as they stepped back into the corridor. "For everything."

Luna smiled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "Anytime, Hermione. Remember, you're never alone as long as you have friends who care."
