Warning: Alcohol use

"Is that..."

"Shushhhh" Brenda clasped a hand to my mouth. "Yes it is, do you want some or not?" She said, taking the hip flask out her pocket, careful not to attract the attention of the teachers around us. I stared at her in admiration.

"Yes! Oh my god. How do you have that?"

"A magician never reveals his secrets" she said whilst pouring the alcoholic liquid into my punch.

I thanked her, and took a swig. And the punch was instantly improved by a mile.

"Vodka?" I asked. She nodded, then smirked knowingly.

"This isn't your first time is it?"

I simply shrugged my shoulders, and gulped my punch in an attempt to hide my smile.

"A y/n never reveals her secrets?" I attempted to crack a joke.

Brenda started blankly at me, looking unamused. But then unexpectedly bit her lip, trying not to smile, only to end up bursting into another fit of laughter. I nearly choked on my punch as I laughed with her.

"Ahhhh" Mrs Currington, the weird teacher sang out.

I gasped, mouthing to Brenda to hide the hip flask. She shoved it into her dress pocket quickly and clumsily, clearly as panicked as me that the teacher would see what we were doing.

"I knew it! I just knew it!"

My heart raced with fear. God, she knows, we're stuffed. I'm done for.

"I just knew you two would become friends! That's so wonderful! Oh my, I knew it from the second you walked in!"

I let out a subtle sigh of relief.

"Oh yeahhhh. We're just... best of friends, right Brenda?"

"Damn right! We be like two peas in a pod Mrs curry curry. You were right alllll along" Brenda slurred out. By the sounds of her words, she was sipping her vodka long before I came in this party.

"Umm, yes. Yes indeed" even the weird teacher was taken aback at Brenda's strange behaviour, which is something considering how unusual she is herself. "Well you two lovely... peas enjoy the party!" Miss Currington trotted off, much to my relief.

"That was close" I said.

"Don't stress lemon zest, she's gone, we aren't gonna get caught"

Lemon zest? First peas, now lemons?

Even though I didn't really know this girl, I felt compelled to help her. Leading me to confiscate her hip flask.

"Hey! I'm not done with that!"

"Yeah yeah, I'll give it too you tomorrow. Deal?"

I held out my hand to shake. Brenda glanced at my outstretched hand, and looked back up at me with furrowed eyebrows.

"What's with you and the handshakes?"

I rolled my eyes, drawing back my hand, trying to hide my embarrassment. Why do I keep doing that?

The buzz of a microphone interrupted my thoughts. The music cut off, and everyone turned their attention towards the stage. There stood a middle aged woman in a plain white dress and blonde hair done up neatly so none was hanging down. And of course, a pink tie.

"May I have your attention please"

The school hall fell silent immediately, it was as though everyone here was scared of her.
