Ruby Beowulf took short breaths as the pained feeling in her chest got tighter by the second. She stood in front of one of the basins in one of the school's female bathrooms.
Gripping the sides of the basin, Ruby leaned over it and shut her eyes to stop herself from shaking and keeping herself under control. However, this was a trying effort as her fingers had grown the black nails of her claws and they were cutting/tearing through the basin's edges like paper.
She looked back up at the mirror in front of her and her panicked state worsened when she took notice of her glowing red eyes looking back at her, and she was unable to turn them off.
The bathroom door opened, and Ruby shut her eyes and looked back down to quickly cover up her emerging wolfish appearance, but then she felt a pair of arms wrap around her from behind and she calmed down slightly at the familiar scent.
"J-Jade...?" Ruby stuttered out.
"I'm here, Ruby. I'm here." Jade told her in a soothing tone.
"J-Jade I can't...I'm losing it..." Ruby said with a quiet groan.
"You're okay, Ruby. We're okay." Jade cooed.
"What if we aren't, okay? What if we're alone again?" Ruby asked, gripping the basin tighter and cracks started to form along the parts she held onto, "We made her unhappy. W-What...what if she leaves us again?"
"She isn't going to leave us, Ruby." Jade tells her, "She's...she's changed."
"...What if you leave me again?" Ruby asked.
Jade held her tighter in the embrace, "Never again."
That reassurance put Ruby somewhat at ease, but her self-control was still in a state of imbalance. A factor the two of them were well aware of at that moment.
"Can we...?" Ruby muttered and Jade nodded, knowing what her twin needed.
She took a breath as Ruby shut her eyes, "By the roots of a mountain,"
"Ground my wrath." Ruby finished.
"By the footfall of a cat," Jade continued.
"Quiet my rage." Ruby finished.
"By the breath of a fish," Jade continued.
"Throttle my anger." Ruby finished.
"By the spittle of a bird," Jade continued.
"Calm my maddened words." Ruby finished.
Ruby let out a sigh and opened her eyes, the red eyes of the alpha within put to rest, and in their place were the original blacks she would usually sport.
She let go of the basin and turned to face her sister with a small smile that Jade returned, holding her face and gently rubbing her cheeks.
"You're okay. We're okay." Jade told her and Ruby nodded, hugging her and burying her head onto her chest.
The doors to one of the stalls opened and Jade turned her head towards the sound, spotting none other than Lydia stepping out.
Jade expected some kind of snide remark or whatever mean girl antic directed at them, but she was surprised to see Lydia sporting a face of concern.
'Is she okay?' Lydia mouthed without saying words so only Jade would take notice of her, even if Ruby had taken notice of her presence, but ignored it in favor of her sister's comfort.
Jade, although suspicious nodded slightly and Lydia nodded. She quickly washed her hands and dried them, leaving the bathroom to the twins.
