It's finally Saturday and my first week of college is already over. I am pleased the way it has gone, though it was bot exhausting. Well, most of the week was rather relaxed, it was Wednesdays and Thursday's classes that killed me.
I plan on staying home and watching a movie since Paige will most likely be at a party. Just as I grab my laptop from the study table, Paige comes barrelling into the room through the door. The thing about having her as a roommate was that she was hardly ever around, so I don't get to see her that much.
I curl up in my mattress and log onto Netflix to decide which movie to watch.
"So, there's a party tonight, I think you should come with me, Harper", she offers.
"Tonight? I don't know Paige, parties are not my thing, and besides I have to be on the phone with my mother tonight".
In my opinion nothing good came out of parties. Not knocking other people for their love of parties, but I seemed to have less than pleasant experience at parties, atleast in my high school years.
"Cmon.....its just one party, you are an adult now, one party won't hurt", she begs.
"But I don't even know anyone that well.", I tell her.
She gives me a pleading look, "I know, I know, but you know me and I won't leave your side and we'll leave whenever you want. Pleaaase", she gives me her best smile.
"Okay, fine, but no drinking games and if anyone throws up on me, I'm out!".
"Yaay, we're gonna have so much fun", she shrieks and jumps up and down, clapping her hands.
..............
"So where is the party, is it nearby", I ask.
"Yes, it is the Apocalypse party at my friend Jacob's frat.", she gives me hesitant look.
"We're going to a frat party?", I turn toward her narrowing my eyes.
"Oh, c'mon Harpy, it be fine! besides as I said Jacob will be there, and he's a great dude."
"Who's Jacob, I don't know any Jacob", I reply back frantically.
"Relax babe, the frat is fun and Jacob's cool people", she replies with a small smile. She was most likely picking up my anxiety just from my face which is not good.
I knew I was overreacting but there is something about older frat guys that makes me really apprehensive to go parties and step in the territory.
"Did you hear what I said?", she says and lets out a laugh.
"Sorry....what...what were you saying?", I didn't realize I had completely zoned out of our conversation.
"I said, let's get ready, and I want you to dress you up tonight", she says trying to ease my tension.
"Okay"
.............................................
"So I'm thinking a white crop top, black skirt and black boots, what do you say, Harpy?"
I shrug my shoulders, "I don't know, a crop top? I don't think I'll be able to pull it off."
"Are you insane? you're literally built like a model; this outfit will look great on you."
"Sure."
Rolling my eyes, I turn back toward the cupboard. I rifle through it for a few minutes, before taking out a different.
"How about this?", I hand Paige the new outfit and watch her face scrunch up in disgust as she inspects it.
"Harpy,......I'm sorry but I don't think a church dress would be appropriate for a frat party.", she says as throws the dress onto the bed.
"Harpy...just wear the damn thing", she says and hands me the outfit she chose for me.
Just as I begin to wear the damn crop top, my phone starts to ring. It's mom. I forgot to text her that I wouldn't be able to call her tonight.
"Hey, Harpy, how are u honey? How was your first week of college? I know I want able to call you that much, the hospital shifts got really crazy this week", my mother says before I could even speak.
"Its ok mom, I can understand."
"What are you doing? You sound rushed."
"Actually, mom I going to text you, I am going to the store tonight to get some things for my room, so I wouldn't be able to talk to you tonight."
"Honey, are you to a party? you know I don't like this stuff."
"No mom, I'm not going to any party, I wasn't planning on going today, this plan was made hastily, I am so sorry, I didn't inform beforehand."
"Its ok sweetie, I trust you, anyways have fun, and call me later, okay?"
I agree, we exchange "good nights", and I hang up.
I look over to Paige, as she unzips her makeup bag. "Anywho, harpy sit down so that I can start with your makeup", she remarks.
Rolling my eyes, I take a seat on the bed, "Yes, your majesty.", I reply and to that she lets out a hard laugh.
"Are you ready?", she asks with beauty sponge in her hand.
"Yeah, have at it", I reply back.
