Chapter 8: Alabasta's Plea

Having found a place to lay low for the time being, Y/N, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Princess Vivi either sit or stand down to catch their breaths after a very eventful day from morning until night with Luffy laughing off the fact that he was about to beat up Zoro and Y/N had the latter not intervened. And the reactions of the two swordsmen are just as much angry at their captain as they would be, giving him the "shark toothed" look as Y/N continues to scold him like a big brother could only do before Nami smacks the Son of the Pirate King on the shoulder to tell him to shut up while she was talking to Vivi about the discussion with Igaram before she had reunited with her crew, causing Y/N to roll his eyes but do so regardless.

"So there you have it! As compensation, I'd like 1 billion Berries. You saw how strong these guys are. It's a pretty good offer, if you ask me." Nami coerces to Vivi to try and get her to take the deal, knowing that a billion Berries is quite a lot of money, though not quite a large amount of money as some of the biggest bounties in pirate history, namely his father's bounty of 5, 564, 800,000 berries.

"I can't! I do appreciate you for saving me. Thank you." Vivi declines the offer, mostly because she doesn't have that kind of money at the moment, and not to mention the state of her kingdom that has gotten her so distressed but can't truly show it to these pirates.

"Why can't you!? You're a princess. One billion shouldn't be much." Nami asks appalled by her declining the contract with Y/N sighing slightly in relief, such a number was obscenely high, though it is unfortunate that his Navigator would see one billion as a small number, considering the bounties in the billions too.

"Easy for you to say, Nami, one billion is already enough to set you up for life if you manage to spend it wisely. Though I doubt that would be the case for most of the crew." Y/N bluntly says, causing the crewmates who were also there to look at him with anger at his accusation only to continue by saying, "Luffy would want to buy as much meat as possible with a billion, Zoro with sake, and you Nami, well I guess you'd be the one to make them not spend all the money at once. Nevertheless, the reason why Princess Vivi can't pay us is because of what has happened to her kingdom, more specifically what someone has done to it."

"What your crewmate says is true about the Kingdom of Alabasta, it's a peaceful kingdom known as a great civilization and nation. Well, it used to be..." Vivi speaks up, allowing everyone to lend their ears to the story as she continues speaking emotions weighing heavy on her heart as she recounts the events leading up to this point, "Alabasta is in the middle of a civil war. For years now, signs of a revolution have begun to appear. The people revolted, and the kingdom fell into total chaos...Then, one day, I heard the name of an organization...Baroque Works! I learned that the populace was being manipulated by this group. But there was a tight lid on any other information than that, and there was nothing I could do. That's when I asked Igaram, who always meddled in my business since childhood, for help."

"The old tube hair guy?" Luffy asks, gesturing with his hands to emphasize what they look like.

"You mean a powdered wig, Luffy?" Y/N asks as he has his arms crossed against his chest, turning to his brother with a small amused smirk and Luffy gives him a bigger one back before they turn to Vivi to continue hearing what she has to say.

"Yes, a powdered wig. I asked him if there was a way I could infiltrate Baroque Works. Because that would let us see who was pulling the strings, and what their goal was." Vivi continues explaining the story, but unexpectedly Y/N helps continue it for her.

"Let me guess, "To create an ideal nation"?" He asks her, causing everyone to look at him with surprise as he kicks off of the wall he was leaning on to walk towards the end of the alleyway to make sure that no one is eavesdropping on their conversation.
