Colet
I think I'm falling in love. I thought as I looked at her while she animatedly tells a story. I think ang cringe pero baka ganto talaga pag inlove?
We've been going out for the past few days and have been getting to know each other.
She would share her favorite restaurants and cafe's while I would take her to my favorites metro parks and open spaces.
Every morning, she would get her Green Tea latte at the cafe and I would usually sneak in notes to cheer her up.
I would often hear her thoughts stressing out so I write down jokes or words of encouragement to lighten her mood.
We've been spending more and more time together but I feel like there's still something she hasn't told me yet.
Something about her family because whenever we go to that topic, she would usually close off and talk about something else. I figured, why rush, we have all the time in world right?
She'll let me know when she's ready. So I kept it to myself and waited.
One afternoon, we were heading home and like usual, hinahatid ko muna siya sa kanila bago ako umuwi.
Nasa kanto na kami, when I felt Maloi stiffen her grip in my hand then quickly let go—her thoughts were a jumbled mess.
I looked up and saw an older woman looking at her, her face showing no emotions.
The resemblance was uncanny and I soon realized that I was looking at Maloi's mother.
I straightened up and offered a tight smile, sensing the tension in the atmosphere. Hmm. Her mother thought.
"Hi Ma, san ka papunta?" Maloi asked her mother.
"Pupunta lang kay Tita mo," her mom answered.
"Okay po, ingat. Friend ko nga po pala si Colet," Maloi said as she introduced me.
"Hello po Tita," I smiled at her mom and did a little wave. Mag mamano ba dapat ako? I wished Maloi could read my mind right now.
Her Mom just nodded and commented, "Uwi na kayo at pagabi na." She continued walking towards the bus stop.
Beside me, Maloi heaved a sigh of relief. She tried to smile and continued our conversation earlier but I could tell that there was something bothering her.
Sadly, I already have a gut feeling on what this is all about.
Days turned into weeks and I eventually noticed that she became more and more distant to me.
I tried prodding her brain on what she isn't telling me, even for just a hint, but she became better in hiding her thoughts.
In the last few days, dating her felt like one step forward and two steps back.
